Is it possible to mod a notebook monitor for use with a desktop? Like somehow detach it and solder a DVI or VGA adapter for it?
 
Not as far as I know, but if you have a network, you can download maxivista and use the monitor as a secondary one for a desktop over the network connection.
 
I'm quite sure it can be done as long as you can identify all the wiring connections and what goes where on the DVI or VGA connector.
