Notebook Memory

So I just got a new notebook and I want to upgrade the memory, only problem is that I don't know what kind it takes, I have heard that it takes PC2700 and then heard that it takes PC3200, its a Compaq V2000 with AMD Turion 64 processor, I tried doing a google search and could really get a straight answer. So any help?

much appreciated

huh? thats weird becuase I tried putting a stick of PC2700 in it and it didn't read it.

weird, I will have to try it again and see if it works.

thanks 🙂

ummm.. most laptops that are pc3200 can use pc2700 ram.
Unless ur comparing DDR2 with DDR.

I just did a ram upgrade on that exact same laptop. I dropped in 2gigs of Crucial OEM ram. There priced really great on newegg.

The ram i used was pc2700 crucial.

yea but what I don't understand is that when I try to put another spare stick of 256 in it doesn't read. for that matter it doesn't even really fit, its the exact same as the stuff already in there, oddly enough its even the same brand.

what do you think is wrong?

I would say more like 1/8th, being as the pin won't even go all to way into the slot. and the clamps holding it is are such a bitch, I can't just push it down and have it pop right it like the stock piece does.

I know you say that I am doing it wrong but I have installed memory in the past and had it go off without a hitch, I don't know why it doesn't seem to fit.

uhhh maybe because u accidentally bought DDR2 instead of regular DDR-SODIMM. I told u, they arent the same. Only DDR pc2700 and DDR pc3200.

Ok guys, I am having a similar issue. Not to thread jack, but people hate new/similar threads. I have a compaq r4010ca. It has 2x256 pc2700 sticks. I went out and bought a 512 meg pc3200 stick, only to find out compaq had given me 2x256 instead of one 512. 🙁 Needless to say I was dissapointed. I should have checked first. So now I am stuck wondering if I should keep my upgrade for a whopping 256 meg increase, or take it back to Futureshop (was on sale) and buy a 1 gig stick.

Also, would installing just pc3200 ram run ok? It is running in there right now downclocked to the other 256 sticks 333mhz timings.

Thanks, Rob
