Notebook Mem Upgrade ?

I have an Averatec 6130 and want to upgrade from 512MB (2x256) to 2g (2x1G). My manual says it will accept DRR 3200, but it came with 2700. Is there any reason I should stick with 2700 or should 3200 work?

The specs in the online version of manual for your machine say your machine can use RAM running at 400/333/266 MHz (PC3200/PC2700/PC2700). However, on page 4-5 it says:

If your computer comes with Intel P4 FSB800 CPU, you must choose PC2700 compliant DIMM module.

I looked up your machine on Kingston's site and found this confirming note:

This series supports both DDR266 (MxxxxB250) and DDR333 (MxxxxC250) memory. CPUs running at 800MHz FSB should use DDR333 memory.

If your machine requires PC2700 (333 MHz) memory, but the best deal (or only) deal you can find is for PC3200 (400MHz), it will probabaly work. It will just run at the slower speed.

If possible, you may want to buy the RAM locally to save shipping cost and time in case you need to exchange it.

My Compaq v5305WM requires memory running at both speeds in the first slot.

It needs PC 3200 for the Radeon Xpress x200 graphics.

And PC 2700 for the physical memory.

I use a module rated for PC 3200/2700 in the first slot. Some people experienced problems/BSOD's using some Kingston RAM rated at PC2700 only.

Just verify if your integrated graphics card requires faster memory speed.

Thanks for the advice. I got some 2700 on sale at a local retailer, so I'll go with that. My machine operates at 800MHz FSB, so that sounds like the best way to go. Just didn't want to later regret not getting 3200. Thanks again.
