Notebook help

I want to replace my 10 gig HDD in my IBM Thinkpad with a 20 or 30 gig HDD. Can I buy a another Travelstar HDD and just reload my software or is there a trick to picking a compatible HDD?

Pretty much all notebook HDD's are the same besides the specs but yes any should work fine.
