Notebook Hard Drive

I have a Laptop that is experiencing Hard Drive problems...

does anyone know if a Notebook hard drive can be installed in a desktop computer for troubleshooting?

it says it is IDE 2.5" drive.

Notebook drives can't go into a PC. I guess it is possible for some convoluted adapter to exist but I've never heard of one. The connector is a totally different animal.

They do make adapters, but it would probably be cheaper and easier to just buy a new drive.

do you know how i would go about backing up the HD? even though i can't boot it?

connector available for like 3 bucks but shipping is like 5-6
ebay has a lot for sale

some come with caddy to mount in a 3.5 drive or 5.25 drive bay

go down to the middle for picture.. something like that...

be careful see that small power line, it snaps off easily.. becareful when removing

2.5 drive is set as master so use a second ide channel or something

i would just order a few of these, like 2-3 since shipping is cheap just because that power wire snaps off easily.. good tool to keep around

What kind of problems are you experiencing?

the notebook hard crashed, then when rebooting... error says it cannot detect OS.

so i think the HD is dying, but hopefully not dead.
