notebook for travel

First of all, let me say that I have a recreational knowledge of desktop computers. I have changed hard drives and processors, and even moved all of my components into a SFF case, but I don't know much about what to look for in laptop hardware. My job is requiring me to travel more now and I would like to find a laptop to suit my needs (and a few of my wants). Basically it will be used for word processing and email/web browsing needs, but I would also like to take music and DVDs (or DVD quality files) with me. Also my biggest want (not need) at the moment would be to have the ability to play World of Warcraft on it. It's fun.

The desktop I have is far from top of the line, but it serves my needs very well. So what I am asking for is ideas and opinions on components and even models that would be an improvment, suit my needs, and (at least some) of my wants. Upgradability is always a plus.

How much do you have to spend

-IBM T42 (1.6ghz dothan, 512mb, 60gb hdd @ 5400rpm) fairly expensive machines but great regardless of the price... worth every penny...
-Apple 12"/15" powerbook... hey WoW is one of the games we can play on um

I've taken my ThinkPad T41 on a trip around the Pacific Rim back in June.

Best travelling notebook I've ever owned. Built-in 802.11b/g lets me surf at wifi hotspots, 4-hour battery life lets me watch at least 1 DVD movie while I'm on a train/bus, and a Kensington power adapter that lets me plug it into the airliner seat when I fly (I flew business class on United, which has the power plug for laptops on their seats).

World of Warcraft doesn't look as nice as on a pimped-out desktop rig, but it will work.

No trouble getting my Thinkpad through airport security either..

My 600m is pretty awesome. I use it at work and to and fro my transit commute and it hasn't let up since. I would get one if money is a bit tight, you can find some good deals in the FS/T forums here.... It' aint no IBM, but it's definately no crappy dell..
