I've always heard that the Transmeta chips really suck when compared to an intel or amd chip.

I've got a comment: get a mobile Duron! They're cheap and perform better than the pentium3 counterpart.

my friend, i know duron is good.

the main problem when it comes to notebook is, you have limited choice.
it's not like just buying a motherboard and processor then u can make a good machine.

when it comes to notebook, factor like battery, size, weight and 3d card comes into play.

That is why i am asking about crueso because judging from the link, the size and weigh suits me.

I have been dreaming of the G4 Titinium powerbook, sadly, the 3D card sucks and i run more windows applicatation. If not, i will buy it directly.

I hope u understand what i am trying to say

Crusoe is designed for light weight notebooks and not as performance machine. The cruesoe is ultra low power cosuming and ultra cool. I believe the crusoe's performance is sub p3 in most benchmarks. It is better than Intel and AMD for DVD playback or web browsing, but not for Quake 3. Crusoe is also hardware and software dependant. A lot different than any intel or AMD processor.

Never again say that jim let you down. www4.tomshardware.com/consumer/01q1/010215/sony_C1VE-12.html reviewed the Sony Vaio Picturebook/C1VE @600mhz. Here is a recent (may 2001) article about the crusoe (no benchies but good) www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1237.1/ . And last but not least there is this -> europa.spaceports.com/~benkarl/benchmarks.htm . I didn't include everything but remember there isn't much literature available that is recent.

If you don't mind me asking what price/performance are you looking for?

DUDE! Just read the link (I'm an inconsiderate ass) and WOW! That system looks loaded. Transmeta did switch over to the .13 micron process and if that release delivers even half of what it said(and you can afford it) then don't waste time posting in anandtech. PREORDER NOW!

"However, coming here soon will be a Waikiki
Image of Muramasa with 7 USB 2.0 Ports and
NINE 6 pin FireWire ports!!!

Yes, it will be a meister One Of A Kind :-(
Added 12 August 2001; I am getting inundated
with requests on Muramasa. Please wait till the
third week in September for detailed specs and
product availability on a 9port FW & 7port USB
all cranking over 1+GHz & Windows XP. "

UHHHHHhHhhhhhhhh....must pick tounge off ground.

price is not an issue to me.

The main thing i want in my machine is a build in CD-ROM. Slim and light with geforce 2 GO.

I can't find one in the market.

In a sense, something totally like Mac G4 Titanium notebook but with Geforce 2 go which run Windows efficiently.
Nothing on the market yet.. not even one that come close.

Didn't a few early Transmeta adopters pull out right before full production? IIRC, IBM (who was probably their largest and key supporter) was supposed to have put out some lightweight subnotebooks by Q1 of this year, but 2000 Q4 unexplicably said, "Sorry, Transmeta." I think Sony is the only mainstream OEM producing any Transmeta based notebooks at all. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

For this reason, I'm not too optimistic about mainstream Crusoe adoption for another few years and would personally choose a mobile P3 machine. Of course, this is your chance to have a "unique" machine. :)

edit: Okay so Toshiba and NEC are still producing for Transmeta. I stand corrected, but IMHO, they would be on better ground if Big Blue was supporting them.
