Notebook conundrum!!

Hi guys,

There has probably been loads of post asking this type of question, sorry if it's been asked yet again 🙁

I'm looking for a laptop (2nd hand off eBay probably, to keep it cheap as pos.). I think I prefer a desktop replacement style one with good processing power to one with good battery life, but SH*T cpu speeds, etc.

I basically need a laptop for DVDs (movies, and burning), listening to music, wireless networking (Internet, etc.), and running latest programs (MS progs, etc). I ain't bothered bout games.

I can buy a USB soundcard and wireless netowrk card, etc. I would really like at least 80GB HDD and 17" screen.

Please any recommendations,, even if u just put a model name. Please help!

Hate to break it to you, but just so you know, the Core 2 Duo, which is in both desktop replacements and lighter notebooks is great for battery life and processing power.

But since you can go with a low end graphics card (just so DVDs playback smoothly), it makes it easy to find a cheaper notebook.

What's your budget?

Sorry forgot to put it! I'm looking to spend $800 MAX.

I actually had a Toshiba Satellite P105 with dual core t2300,, and I thought it was pretty cr*p. On inital installation its quick, but gets very easilly bogged down when I installed all my programs. Games don't run well at all. I paid $1400 for it,, not worth it at all. So sold that and am now looking for something around $800.

You may want to check out the Dell outlet. You might be able to pick up a Refurbished (broken and fixed up)/new in box/opened, but new/or scratched and dented notebook for about your price.

As for your Toshiba, what are you installing on it? How much RAM does it have?
