Notebook Configuration

Is there any special meaning when one writes or talks of a notebook configuration? Are there a number of basic notebook configurations that are followed by indiduals who own or have to maintain these types of computers? I was thinking that perhaps it was related to creating profiles, so when one uses his/her laptop both at home and/or school/work you would select that. This may sound like a simple question but a serious response would be appreciated. TIA.

that depends on the OS, you're a little vague so forgive me if I mis-understood the question.

I assume you're talking about docked, un-docked, *special* modes of start up depending on what you'll be doing with your system. some OS's allow you to select a special mode of startup profile, when still using the same user profile, for example if you are at work and you have to log into the domain server, you can make a startup profile that has log into domain selected, and when on the road, you can change it to, local host, without having to log in as local administrator and change the login credintials. That's really not something that can be taught here as there is a lot of different options that can be applied, you'll need to see about buddying up with an IT person who can walk you through your individual questions in person.

Cheers,
