Notebook already part of a domain at work...

First of all, thanks for taking the time to read this.

Here's the problem:

We have a desktop upstairs, connected to a Linksys cable modem/wireless router combo, and a notebook connected wirelessly to said router.

The notebook is mainly for use at work, where it is connected to a domain. While at home, however, I would like to be able to transfer files easily between the two computers, and naturally, I figure a network is the best option.

The problem begins when I attempt to setup the network using the Network Setup Wizard included with XP Professional. Upon opening, I am given a message to the effect that the wizard cannot be used to setup this network because this computer (notebook) is already part of a domain.

Any suggestions to get these two computers able to share files without losing my connectivity at work?

Well, imagine that.

I'll give it a try later tomorrow; if it doesn't work, I'll reply here again.

All the same, thank you for the help! (I'm a bit perplexed to realize that I failed to see the alternate configurations section...)

As long as the NIC and TCP/IP is setup for DHCP then there really isn't anything to configure. Only how to get to the remote resources. You can just use the IP in a UNC path from the run box. Start, Run then \\IP\share or just \\IP where IP is the IP of the remote box. You could also edit your hosts file but if your using the same sort of addressing scheme as you are at work this may conflict with a particular node on the work network but it would solve name resolution for the remote workstation at home.

Well, I took it into work today and talked to my IT guy. He setup my laptop so that it can be accessed via my desktop with the command: "\\gibsonlaptop\c$". It works fine.

However, when I try to access "\\gibsondesktop\c$" (where "gibsondesktop" is my desktop's computer name) from my laptop, I get the message that: "The network path was not found." I have tried entering the IP address, sharing folders on the desktop, and entering an alternate TCP/IP configuration on my laptop. Do I need to forward ports from my router maybe?

Any suggestions?
