Wow, even CPR and physically pulling out the pancakes didn't save her :( Pancakes are probably the worst given how much it compresses, it's like thick foam.

Sue the school into oblivion. I'll be so sorry to see greek life go though. It was really the last place you could safely rape somebody in good fun.

So sad to see someone so young passing.

BTW unless you have a tall glass of milk or water nearby, then scarfing down a stack of flapjacks probably isn't a good idea.

I play golf at the course right next to Sacred Heart. Was coming out of the place Monday and drove by the main gate of the campus, there were three news crews set up filming. Figured something bad had to have happened.

Whenever I eat pancakes there is enough syrup and butter on them that I am practically drinking them.

If you don't understand just how fucked up Sororities and Frats are in this country, you've been living under a rock. They are a hyper-conformist peer-pressure driven cesspool of sex and liquor mixed with rape and drugs. If they were universally outlawed on all college campuses tomorrow, NOTHING of value would be lost.

Pulsar, I understand that sororities and frats are slutty, including probably peer pressured into having sex. But you are saying mass rapes go on in the United States by frat guys against sorority girls? Like, the girl say no, and the guy forces himself on her? If that was going on on a large scale it just seems more of it would come out...

What a tragedy. Beautiful young woman. Lost her father in the 9/11 attacks, her mother must be devastated.

The two foods that caused these deaths had a lot in common. I'm not sure I've seen many food eating competitions where the food was a cake or bread. It's easy to see how they could become like cement in the esophagus, and block a person's airway.

Ummmm.....no. The only place the esophagus and airway is connected is the mouth to the epiglottis. After that, you can plug the esophagus all you want and you can still breathe quite well.....they're sorta separate structures, with the esophagus traveling behind the trachea/windpipe. People suffer esophageal blockages all the time, tumors, foreign bodies, food, swelling from chemical burns, and those don't cut off your access to air.

Um. Yes.

Once it's regurgitated? Read the stories. In both cases those on the scene were unable to clear the person's mouth and airway. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult, as it's a relatively small space, but the food was packed in them from mouth to stomach.

Well in hot dog eating contests they do eat a lot of buns, but hot dog buns are pretty light and airy compared to pancakes. I have seen some giant sandwich eating contests where it's a decent amount of bread.

Hot dog eating contest. They dunk the bun in water otherwise they'd choke. Basically any dry starchy carb is going to do that. There is the saltine cracker challenge where you have to eat 6 saltines in 60 seconds, most people can't do it because it absorbs all the saliva in your mouth and you will choke. Our family dog was able to do it just fine though, we were prepared to rescue her if she choked though, but dogs generate a lot more saliva.
