So judging from the IFA poster, the bezel bloat that weakened the S5 is absolutely not carrying over to the Note 4:

Yeah, if they manage to slim down the bezels a good bit that will make this phablet a bit more pocketable. And, if it has the resolution bump we've heard about and maybe 4GB RAM this will be hard to resist. I'm interested to see if/when it will have Android 5.X with the new, more efficient engine replacing Dalvik.

Let's just say I'll be looking for an early upgrade from my 17 month old HTC One.

I wonder if towelroot will work on it out of the box. Hopefully the exploit still works until Android L.

Doubt it. Looks like the latest AT&T S5 OTA closed the hole already. Fortunately you can Odin back...

We're talking about millimeters of difference in a best case scenario. The Note 3 already has near record bezel slimness so I don't think the improvements they manage to make (if any) will be all that groundbreaking. It's more of an aesthetic thing than a practical merit.

It's possible they match the bezel size of the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, though, which I think is around 80% screen/bezel vs the note 3's +/- 75%.

Weight and thickness wise there may still be serious room for improvement.

Damn didn't know that. I don't doubt that devs will eventually root the Note 4, but Kit Kat took a while to crack (months) and I'm not sure I'd be happy using the phone for that long without it (unless Samsung uses a good software dpi to not make things cartoonishly large on screen).

I may have to wait and pick up a T-mobile Note 4 at full price to use on AT&T.

To be fair, the Lenovo has a 6" screen. Make the Note 3 6" while keeping the bezels the same and it'll probably be around 80% too.

I'd wait on it if root is very important.

I wonder how long it will take to get android 5.0 on this phone officially from the carrier? It could take a while and that will keep me away from this because I hate running a carrier ROM.

so is 9/3 the actual launch date or an official announcement?
i'm hoping for 4gb ram, but from what i read it sounds like it'll stay at 3gb.

If you hate running a carrier ROM why do you care when official 5.0 is available from your carrier? Something doesn't add up in your statement.

Maybe he's on Verizon and assuming the bootloader won't be cracked and would have to wait for an official release before it can be modded?

You can't put 4GB of ram in an android phone because android is 32bit.

Was messing with my uncle's Note 3 the other day, realized how much I miss that phone. Even if the Note 4 somehow turns out to be crap, I'm going back to the Note line, be it the 3 or 4.

I'll probably hold off until alternative ROM support matures a little bit, assuming the Verizon model gets support. I am interested to see what the hardware looks like though. The Note line always has top shelf specs.
