Thanks to a tipster, we’ve been handed the official press release for the Galaxy Note II, which is expected to be announced at IFA 2012 in just a few hours. The display of the Galaxy Note II will be 5.5″ and 1280×720 resolution (granting it a true 16:9 aspect ratio, but with lesser resolution than the original Galaxy Note which had 1280×800 pixels). Like the original Note, the display will be an HD Super AMOLED panel. The device will feature a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU (the type is not specified, but we’ll put our money on the Exynos) with 2GB of RAM and an 8MP camera on the rear and a 1.9MP camera on the front. It’ll be powered by an even-larger 3,100mAh battery (the original Note was 2,500mAh). Despite the larger battery, the Note II will be slightly thinner than the original at 9.4mm versus 9.65mm, but it’ll be heavier by 2 grams. It’ll be available in 16, 32, and 64 GB configurations and will have microSD expansion. In terms of wireless connectivity, the Note II will feature HSPA+ 21mbps, plus 4G LTE depending on model. It will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. In terms of availability, the Note II ships in October in Europe. It will be available in Marble White or Titanium Gray. No word on pricing or US availability.

Beyond the specs, the Note II brings some new functionality to the table in terms of the S-Pen feature. To start, the new S-Pen is longer, thicker, and features an improved design to be more ergonomic. There is a new feature called Air View that “allows users to hover with the S-Pen over an email, image gallery, or video to preview the content without having to open it.” And, just like Popup Play which lets you watch a video while doing another task, Popup Note lets you keep a note on the screen while using another application. There’s also a new feature called Quick Command that is accessed with an upward swipe with the S-Pen; doing so will reveal a menu of quick commands to send someone an email, make a call, or do a search. Finally, the Note II has a Screen Recorder function that lets a user record a demonstration of how to use an application, for instance.

Taking bets on if it makes it to the US with the Quad-core Exynos?

My money is on no, with a Snapdragon S4 Pro taking it's place.

Damm, is that the new SAmsung window phone ??
Thats a beauty.
Its a more square-ish shape vs the GS3.
And the back looks more like a brushed aluminum instead of glossy plastic.
Nokia better have a nice Win8 up its sleeve.
I'm getting my first Win8 phone this year and it will be Nokia or Samsung.

They could but where could they put a grill on the front and not make it noticeable ??
I like how Apple does it and put in on the end where when you lay your phone down the speaker is not blocked.
What phone do you know of that has speaker on the front ??

My Samsung Behold had it. On the ear piece there was also a speaker and it sounded pretty damn good.

Samsung should cut all this bs out and get to the point

I'm at work watching, and I don't have sound available. From the looks of it, all he's showing is pictures of a trip he took with his Galaxy Note 10.1 or whatever it's called.

Cool but with a 5.5" note and 4.8" SGS3, there's not too much room. Plus 4.8" is pushing the boudns of being too big.

With HTC releasing an HTC One X+ at 5", I think this is getting ridiculous. I hope we can have a usable phone size that fits MANY people. I think 4.5" and 5.5" would allow Samsung to differentiate between a phone and a phablet. Otherwise the lines are blurring too quickly, and the only way people with NORMAL sized hands can have a usable phone is to use something terrible.

Very, very true. The bigger the screen should not equal the better device. They should just build the same device and then change screen sizes. I think it's awesome to have such a sweet device in the Note 2, but the fact is that you need to have a 5.5" screen to use it and not a 4.3" or 4.7". Don't get me wrong. I'm all for a bigger screen, but there is still a gigantic market segment of people that don't want anything to do with a phone over 4"... Can you say hello iPhone?

An iPhone user that is content with their 3.5" screen most likely won't care to jump ship to a new phone that has a bigger screen and quite possibly an unknown OS.

So if I'm reading this correctly, the WP8 has an aluminum chassis, and the Note2 is plastic? The Note 2 that will outsell the WP8 phone 50 times over?

is it me or the the new Ativ S phone is like an SGS2 design?

In fact how is this not more like an iPhone?

I'm really pissed because this design is LIKE an iPhone (which I don't mind), yet they went all fugly defensive on Android models. This is what the SGS3 should've looked like. Round home button, hardware shutter.

Ugh.

I think there's a big enough market in the 4-4.5" arena to justify having a high end flagship phone around that size. I'm pretty sure such a phone would sell just as well if not better than a 5.5" Phablet. But that's just me. Relying on purely hugeass phones as flagship phones means the iPhone is free to dominate the smaller phone segment, which... it will.

Ugh.

Microsoft's patents protect it's WIndows Phone partners so Samsung doesn't have to worry about getting sued by Apple over it's Windows Phone lineup.

The original note had a 5.3" screen and sold over 10 million units, making it Samsung's second most successful phone behind the SGS2. That was with an AT&T exclusive contract in the U.S. and T-mobile briefly had it for a month or two.

There are more choices under 5" than over, plenty of people want larger screens, and the smaller ones aren't going anywhere.

Yeah i'm not sure why people get irritated over choices. If you don't like it don't buy it
