-Babysit developers using our tools
-Wade into 60 megs of source code to find where they mismanaged thier CREATES/DESTROYS causing the memory leak
-Show them how to compile and deploy in machine code
-Debug thier apps
-Fix thier database connections
-Argue with ignorant DBA's about Oracle synonyms
-Tell a certain mickey mouse organization that I don't care how big they are - we can't tell them how much of the 64k Win 9x memory heap each NVO in our tools use
-Ignore a certain football league because they won't demonstrate the problem outside thier 400 meg application,
-Pester customers with old stale cases to let me close them,

-And mostly try to diagnose why the $1 million dollar a day application that involves deployed components on an application server that talk to Java beans are getting CORBA failures on disconnecting from the Unix based Web Server.

(Phew!)

Right at the moment I'm decommissioning the CDMA portion of CDMA/TDMA hybrid cell sites and repopulating the TDMA frame with a combination of digital and analog radios.

Sounds good :D

Ark - I work for a very large software company (one of the biggest in the world). I work in a division that supports programming tools, application servers, Web development tools, and Java programming tools, as well as our own programming language. So I'm one of the guys developers at other big companies using our dev. tools or server products calls when his developed app isn't working, or if he needs help using/programming/deploying.maintaining the app or software.

(was that long winded enough? :) )

YEP! Sometimes people can be very difficult... still, I love my job because it is always different. Programmers can create anything, and they do - and then they call me b/c it isn't working! :D
The new problem everyday keeps me learning and interested - and the environment and company are fantastic too!

Still, it is stressful - programmers are a tempermental lot and rarely are willing to acknoledge that the problme might be in their code! Stress managment is important and to be honest, OT is excellent for that. I work about 30 min, then refresh, read, and maybe post here for 5 min, then back to work - it really helps to take those mental breaks and refresh my brain before diving back into it!

Sammy - there is indeed a name, but I'm not sure I want to post it here. We've had a bunch of folks let people know that they worked for, say, Intel, and they got pestered quite a bit. Still - I'm debating whether it matters if I post it or not. I'm just not sure I want to right now. :)
