not worth the money

Oh this will be good.

I'll just go ahead and get it out of the way: Apple.

Most makers of high-end ANYTHING can easily be cited, though. You just have to face that things that are expensive (relative to other available options) are just not ever going to be a good 'value.' What I mean by that, is that if a garbage product costs 'x,' and a really competent, high-value version costs '2x'...at '4x' or more, there's no way you're really actually doubling the value. Diminishing returns and all that...

That said, Bose is really a very unique situation. There are not a lot of companies that have managed to survive by making a bargain-basement product and selling it as high-end (or at least 'upper midrange') prices. I'm struggling to come up with anything truly comparable...

I can name about 50 different liquors that have managed to convince the consumer that cheap swill is high end. There's no shortage of examples in clothing too.

Apple's an easy target as it's highly dependent on what you're buying. The iPad and MacBook Pros are definitely worth the money. iPhone depends if you buy it on contract or not. Everything else I would agree with this statement.

What isn't worth the money?
-Kurig and other pod coffee makers: Supplies for them are grossly over priced and they produce a low quality cuppa.
-Ink Jet Printers: Expensive supplies that run out quickly. Laser has a higher up front cost but is substantially better in the long run.
-Organic Food: study after study has shown that it's no better for you

I'm soooo tired of hearing that argument. Phones cost what they cost. The wireless company is not just saying 'well, because we think the iPhone is just SO GOOD, we're willing to eat some of the cost so that you can enjoy its brilliance.'

You are paying for it. Period. About the only argument that you can make is that you're getting a better 'deal' by opting to, say, pay $100 for the iPhone versus someone getting the same plan and opting for a 'free' phone that might only retail for $100-200. In those cases, the iPhone is STILL a $400-600 phone, only you're just kinda lucking out by having someone else help subsidize it for you. Congrats, you accidentally got phone welfare.

bose are not garbage, but they are a complicated company.

first, they make military and professional hardware; their aviation noise-cancelling headphones are astounding.. at a price.

their directional-sound-based, reflecting no-speaker tv is a very nice piece of engineering, and some of their high end speakers are excellent, BUT overpriced.

their consumer level stuff is between shit and decent, but always overpriced because see above - they are an expensive brand, and they overcharge because they have a name.

tbh i like the pride they take in their brand .. i still wouldn't buy one of their products, because they are pro-level priced, but "luxury-consumer" built.

How is that different from any top tier phone sold in the US?

iphones are expensive but still pretty good hardware for the money, they are only a ripoff when you take into account that the software they run is neutered and pretty much useless

VW and Audi cars. The VW cars seem very overpriced for a lower/mid car. I've not heard any good experiences with them in terms of reliability and cost of repairs. I've known a few people with them having electrical problems. My friend was complaining that they put the batteries in a very odd spot (under/behind seat?) and other things that make you go to a dealership. I know 1 person with an audi, I think they look real nice but heard the same things, very expensive to up keep, insure For the same or less $ you can get a good Lexus/Honda/acura

Ferrari or Lambo, can't remember which one but the one that requires a transmission overhaul every 20,000 miles. Also the Ferrari 599 for having a timing belt instead of the more reliable timing chain. Such high end cars, such low reliability. Is there any excuse? They do sound and look great I'll give them that. But there are other cars that sound and look great and are fast with much better reliability for example Corvette, Dodge Viper, etc. I won't list them all. So I ask again, is there any excuse for the poor reliability in some high end makes and models?

I drove the Houracan last month. Got the fastest lap time out of a group of 75 people on a nice "street" track in the exotic car place in Vegas. I never understood why those cars were that great. I completely understand now. Not that I'll ever own one, but I understand.

As far as the Viper being better, or the Corvette, I took a drifting/pro ride in a Corvette, very different.

Because Apple bad? Personally, I've never seen my phone bill drop after my contract expired. So I'm paying the same $65/mo regardless. Just depends whether you want to be locked to a provider or not.

I would advise against owning one even if you were a billionaire. Then I would advise you own 2. When one is in the shop being repaired you can drive the other one.

I hate when people bring up "free" with contract nonsense. I looked at contract plans when I was looking to buy a smart phone. A new Nexus 4 and 24 months of the $30/mo TMobile pre-paid plan costs me ~$1000 over 2 years, including the device cost (which is what I went with). The cheapest, plans that I could live with from the post-paid world would have cost at least $500 more over the same time frame.

In the end, you're getting a short-term subsidy, but you pay back that subsidy and more over the life of the contract.

i would never touch an apple product again.
my 64gb ipod touch gen3 was working fine until an iOS update. suddenly some songs skipped/cracked as if it was on a scratched CD. factory reset didnt do anything and i couldnt revert the update. luckily it was under warranty, so the store gave me another brand new one. went home, did the update again n same issue! the store's genius gave me another one and told me never ever update.
ipad 1 and 2 in the house were working fine until their system was updated. suddenly webpages lags n loads excruciating slow. i should had warned the other family members against updating. was it coincident newer ipods and ipads were released earlier so we would be tempted to upgrade the hardware??? oh wells, cant fool us twice apple...

ahhh VW cars. i knew a VW mechanic. he told me he would never buy their cars. when asked what he drove, he replied: a camry. lol

The purpose of Tag Heuer is that they are waterproof down to 300m and thus you can go scuba diving with them.

I got one as a gift. It is admittedly kind of meh. Back when my parents were blowing tons of money.

I purchased a mac book air 2012 and the SSD went out 1.5 years later

I went to the apple store and even though it was out of warranty they replaced it and reinstalled the OS for free the same day.

The same DAY.

I can't even offer myself service that is that good.

If apple weren't such a POS company they would have installed a better ssd.
