Ok so I just got my new computer today, got everything put together. But then I got to turn it on and it will start up for like 5 seconds and then shut right back off. I dont get it, everything is hooked up fine (I think anyway). I just dont get it, starts up and then shuts down....makes no sense. Unless im missing something here I dont know what the heck I did wrong, I hope someone can help me.

Here's what im running.

Biostar M7NCD Pro
AMD Athlon XP 2700+
Kingston 512k PC3200 CL3
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy LS
Maxtor 80 gig

I really hope someone can help me here.

What do yea mean by post and then power off? It like starts up, fans start up (nothing came on the monitor though) for like 5 seconds and then shuts back off. I dont think its the power supply, its brand new.

Pull the video card out... see if it happens.. pull the sound card out.. see if it happens... pull the ram out.. it should beep beep beep.. if it powers off with all that stuff out it's chip or power supply.

If necessary, you can take the whole mobo/CPU/heatsink assembly out of the case and check. If you have a dental mirror, that might help you check it visually.

I had a similar problem a long time ago on an A7V133 board. It turns out that the CPU fan was spinning to slow (80mm at very low RPM) for the BIOS to recognize that there was a fan attached to it. So the BIOS would shut off the computer to protect itself.

I had to boot into the BIOS with a decoy fan attached to the header, and shut off that feature (don't remember what it was called) in the BIOS.

Ok so I got it to stay on.

But I got a different problem now, once it turns on it just sits there. No HD activity on the light and nothing comes up on the monitor. The power light just blinks as if the computer were off. I dont know if this is a video card problem, shouldn't be; or a motherboard problem, who knows; but what im thinking it is is the HD, because once I start the computer I dont hear it spin or anything and the light on the front for HD activity doesn't light up or anything.

I really dont know what the hell the problem is. But it's really pissing me off

It should POST regardless if there was a HD hooked up or not. Do you hear it beep at all?

All cases that I've ever seen have a speaker. If you hook it up (you don't have to leave it hooked up once you get everything working ), the beep codes should give you some idea what's going on.

Ok I can feel the HD spinning by touching it. But theres still no activity from the HD light.

Ill go look again to see if there is a speaker and wether or not its hooked up.

I do not believe there is a speaker....no connectors for it coming for it to connect to the front pannel stuff. I dont get it! What the hell is wrong, it starts up but it just sits there....nothing comes up on the screen...this doesnt make sense! Im about to send this PoS back.

Was the heatsink backwards, then? How many times did you overheat the chip (since that's what causes emergency shutdowns like that)? You might've killed it.

Anyway, I have a whole document dedicated to solving no-POST/no-run situations: www.omnicast.net/~tmcfadden/index.html and it's the first link on the page, opens in WordPad. Print it out and get out a pencil and check off each item as you go.

Ok so I got it working this morning when I woke up...started to install windows...it got done fine. I went to look at the processor speed and saw that it was only running like a 2100+, but its a 2700+. So I restart and go to the bios and up the frequency from 133 to 166. After doing that and saving the settings and then restart it does the same damn thing. Nothing comes up on the screen, I just dont get it. What the hell is wrong with this thing!

Try a quality-brand power supply, bro. Also set your memory to run sync'ed to the CPU's FSB, even though that will drop its speed. The low latency more than makes up for it. And boost your memory voltage a little, start with 2.6 volts.

Well I would do that....but I cant get anything to come up on the screen. Thats the problem here, and I dont get it at all.....nothing comes up on the screen when I start it up. The light on the monitor just blinks like the computer is shut off.
