eeeewwww

Dust can be a real problem, for me as well. Over the summer we renovated my room, and took down a chimney and some plater walls. There is still plater dust everywhere, and it gets into my computer and really gunks things up.

But removing dust can have a profound effect on cooling, as you just discovered. Dust is one of your worst enemies. I recommend you purchase some fan filters; they'll keep out a large portion of the dust. Dust will still find its way into the case, but at least the majority of it will be stopped at the filters. You can also use dryer anti-static sheets taped over most of the ventilation spots as a makeshift filter if you're cheap; I mean thrifty. 😛

Same here, although my arch nemesis right now are dust's allies, electrostatics and gravity. Perhaps charging your filter and all of your components positively will cause the dust to be repelled. Or perhaps I've been staring at my physics book for too long.

Lol. dust probably has both positive and negative charges, so you'd have to turn your case into a giant capacitor. That would be pretty interesting until you fired that puppy up and wiped the hard drive.

I figured that if the dust passed through a positively charged filter, it would become positively charged too. Then when it got near the components it would be repelled by their positive charges too. But now I think you'd probably have to have a negatively charged exhaust fan so that the dust would be attracted to the exhaust instead of suspending themselves in the case. Did I mention that I hate electromag physics?

hrm, I wonder if someone's going to say "I heard I can cut down on water used to flush toilets by putting bricks in so I tried that on my case. Naw dude, the bags direct the airflow, they don't hinder it".
