Not to Bug too much, but CLEAN out your Case folks: Esp. if OCing

Just a tip folks, make it a point to clean out your case every 3 months or so. I opened up my case to flash my IC7 Bios and there wasn't anything really disgusting, but I do have a Zalman 7000AlCu CPU Heatsink/Fan that was caked in dust. I used the vacuum to clean it off and also my Radeon 9700 fan/Heatsink and now my CPU temp has dropped 5 Degrees Celsius. For those that are overclocking, this is a pretty good jump. So I would suggest maybe every time, or every other time you flash your Bios to really spend a thorough, and methodical time cleaning out your case of dust as much as you can.

Just thought this could help.

Why do I need to open my case to flash my bios? I clean my case our regularly anyways. I have filters on the front intakes that I clean out, so the in side stay s pretty clean.

Well for my ABIT IC7 you can flash the Bios in Windows or manually with a Floppy. I do the Floppy route as it's more reliable, and then have to go into the case to move the CMOS jumper.

As for the case dust, sure a filter will help but it doesn't totally filter out ALL dust. For my PC, the front intake filter does a good job, but there is still dust that will get through the filter.

Man, reading this thread just reminded me that I hadn't cleaned my intake filter in a while. So cleaned it. That's the most dust I've ever seen on it! I don't think any air could have gotten through!!

Yup, use a cheap filter at the very least and a quality one if you must. I have a very dusty environment and the crud that builds up on the filters is just mind boggling.

Had a Ti4200 that died on me last year coz dust and crap going into the fan and i never cleaned the case, i learned my lesson...
So it's not only for good constant ocing results, it's for the system's components life.
Filters are good but also cleaning the room where the system, is every week, is better... ah and tell your gfs to change shampoo brand coz of all of the hair that flies around and gets in the fans lol 😀

You said it. Non-overclockers, wait, let me say this, ALL PC owners should clean the PC up from time to time, like, it's your property?!?

Not only fans need cleaning, remember, heatsinks have crevices and places where dust WILL collect! Once I cleaned my cpu's fan, then when I saw through it ... man, that heatsink is ...

I'll also just stick to cleaning my filters. Why open my entire case up if I don't need to? Before anyone says that I can't see how much dust is in there, I can. And it's pretty clean.

My Lian Li case does pretty well about not sucking in a lot of dust. I usually just clean the filter every few months.

filters...soundm nice.i dont have any and i also know how dirty my case is...

However....how does a flter protect when there's also air sucked in from things like the floppy drive, CD/DVD drives...smart-card reader, front usb.....i would need a filter on any opening where air gets sucked in....

Er, I always flash my IC7-G with the disk, and I never have to reset the jumper. The only time you should ever need that jumper is if you fvck something up...
