see a psychiatrist for your depression. you might not think it'll help but i can tell you from personal experience that it will. please see a psychiatist. it'll help you make a good decision with regards to your mother also. i would take care of her but if thats not the right choice for you, you should make that decision with a clear head, not a depressed outlook.

I am seeing a psychiatrist. I am on Meds (nothing crazy.. pun), but we both agreed that this situational depression and meds aren't going to help much. To address some of the questions posed above: she is disabled, for her breathing problems. She does use oxygen, but can walk short distances. For the longest time I tried to think of places/ways she could work outside the home. But with her on oxygen, very difficult. My mom is on medicare disability. She can do a lot of things for herself (around the house). My mom is eligible for public/disabled housing and told me she has applied, but I don't believe her. That is an option I need to pursue. Living like this, in this situations is very unhealthy. I have one sibling who lives across the country and not in a position to help out financially (and it hasn't really been about money, so far...).

As for myself, I do not get out much. I do not have many close friends in the area. Honestly at this point, going to work is like a 9 hour vacation every day.

You need to do two things. Socialize more and problem solve more. You'll need more objectivity if you're going to do either successfully. You're too inside the situation to look at it rationally.... every little decision or circumstance is probably emotionally charged for you. Your mom's living situation shouldn't prevent you from having a social life any more than it is preventing you from working. Get some perspective and the rest will fall into place.

Psychiatrists are societal parasites more worthless than even lawyers (though not as evil). The only benefit you might get from one is a prescription, but your depression has a life circumstance cause, not a chemical imbalance one.

No Xenu here, just experience. You think one helped you? Lol... You should have just kept a journal or talked to a wall, journals and walls don't charge 3 digits an hour.

18 year for her versus 3 years for him. Wonder who got the short end of this comparison.

Your mother may benefit from some type of support group too.

Sounds like she has no one but you.

Perhaps if she knew others it would be less strain on you.

Moving to a smaller house would be the opposite of what I think is best (a bigger place with more space for you two to spread out in sound better to me - proximity breeds contempt)

Good luck with it,

Fern
