" NOT the 'whiteman's bitch' "

[q]Madison — State elections officials Wednesday narrowly rejected a Milwaukee Assembly candidate's attempt to run with the slogan "NOT the 'whiteman's bitch' " under her name on the ballot.

Ieshuh Griffin, an independent candidate with a history of feuds with local officials, said in response she would sue the state Government Accountability Board for infringing on her freedom of speech.

She is running to replace retiring Rep. Annette "Polly" Williams (D-Milwaukee).

"I'm not making a derogatory statement toward an ethnic group. I'm stating what I'm not," Griffin told board members. "It's my constitutional right to freedom of speech."[/q]

I'm at a loss for words. Just when you think people can't get more stupid, something like this happens. The worst part is that there isn't a big stink about her being racist.

She's not one of mine.

Let's see. Her or Al. Hmm. Al, calling Al.

Comment:
I wonder if I could run with the slogan "no more loser entitlement programs?"

I don't see anything wrong with it. She explains that the way she means it is not literally a white man but the government.

I think the video says they are allowed five words or less. Maybe she should just change it to "I won't be their bitch".

Interesting concept, allowing minority party candidates to place a brife statement on the ballot. Maybe after Wisconsin spends many thousands of dollars defending this case they will repeal that law in the interest of fiscal prudency. I guess Ms. Griffin would then count that as a free speech victory.

Then there is the larger issue why minority party candidates have more free speech rights than Dem or GOP ones, who are not allowed to put a policy statement on the ballot.

Serously though this will be a very close free speech question, could go either way.

What she explains it to mean and what the words actually mean two different things. Frankly I don't know how you can't consider it racial as she specifically mentions 'whiteman' in there. Can you imagine the outrage if someone put 'Not the black man's ho' on the ballot?

'I won't be their bitch' would be more acceptable

One, this is nothing new. If you voted and actually read all of the other looney candidates on a ballot you would know this. One looney black woman running in some local state race is of Zero importance. I can look online everyday and find some nut job and make some argument of racism. As for her slogan, its unsavory, but is this worthy of some kind of racial discussion, no. Welcome to America............

While I certainly agree with you that it means nothing, if this were a Tea Party candidate running on 'Will keep blacks in their place' this would be headline news running on every major network.

The reason being is that the Tea Party is a viable political group that publicly denounce racism.

Someone should tell the NAACP that.

The NAACP is an activist group, not a political one. The NAACP actually stands for something honorable. While mishaps have occurred, they still do a good job at speaking out against legitimate racial issues on behalf of blacks. If you can't stand the NAACP, don't blame them, don't blame the black man. Find your grandparents, depending on your age, maybe your parents, aunts and uncles, blame them. The are the ones to blame, they are the ones to hold responsible. The NAACP, AA, BET, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, MLK, Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks, Blacks colleges, Black Panthers, etc., etc, etc were all shaped or born out of response to your heritage.

The world has gone so PC loopy that I am seriously surprised no one has deemed that Christmas song,
Bing Crosby - "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas"
as racist 🙂

And blame certain people who post on this site!

Exactly. They're not responsible for what they've become or how they act, everyone else is. 🙄

I'm going to blame "whitey" for a group who is blatantly racist? I know a girl who was raped by a black guy. She is fine to be racist, right? That makes it ALL ok.

Want to get rid of racism? Get rid of laws that refer to race. Get rid of organizations that are pro-con any race. Make laws that benefit the majority and do not consider race.

Ta. Fucking. Da.

I'm white, have no problem with her running with that. Don't even care if she publically says that she means it as a derogatory statement.

People should be free to run on whatever platform they chose to, and people should be free to vote for anyone running they chose to.

I'm actually more disappointed that she wussed out and said that she didn't mean it like she clearly meant it. Then again, she's running to be a politician, all word games......
