I just needed to vent this out. Who knows maybe you guys can help with one of the problems- ATOT is always helpful :)

This Wednesday we went Off-Roading at a place near Blacksburg called Brush Mountain. My car, as it seemed incapable, at the time, of getting stuck, went first through all the water/mud pits. Only got stuck once but to make a long story short, we got it out with no damage.

On Friday we take a few (We had 2 cars each time) more people in each car. It had rained last night, so we went early to test it before doing the actual off-roading. Everything seemed fine. Then there was this huge pit, not wanting to get stuck, I gunned it in 4-Hi. We hit the water and the wave came up and splashed the car and it stalled. After getting it out, it refused to start.

Dreading what happened, I took off the intake and water came out. Immediately we started scrambling. We got the spark plugs out and turned the engine over. Engine turned over partially and water shot out of #3 Cylinder and trickled out a few of the others. Thinking it was hydrostatically locked we connected everything and tried and all we got was a partial turn and it wouldn't go anymore. We even tried towing it in 5th gear (With and W/O Spark Plugs) and got nothing.

Today after towing it out and getting a Tow Truck on Friday, they called and said the engine was done for. They think the Crankshaft is bent :(

I was hoping that was the end, but nope! At Kings Dominion my cell phone screen cracked (Now have to buy a new cell or pray warranty covers it). Praying that was the end, nope! My friends father passed away!

I take so much pride in my driving and then I do something semi-risky...it sucks having all this happen and know that a huge part is your fault :(. Parents now have to drive down to college and pick me up, I need to work like 80 Hrs a week to afford a new car and what not... What a long week.

Any thoughts on the car or anything else, feel free to post. I just needed to get this all off of my chest.

-Kevin

(I did find that despite all of this, that I definitely have the greatest friends anyone could ask for :) )

Well the problem is, my car is a 1992 Toyota Pickup. Engine is 3VZE. A new engine will run me ~$2,000. We would need to find a new engine, somehow get the car 3 Hrs up the interstate to a local mechanic. Not to mention the body and the rest of the car (Save for the Tires, Shocks, and Struts) is 15 years old.

I seriously doubt I will be able to watch my first car, the car that was given to me, the car that I took for granted, get hauled away to a junk yard. :(

If you go out mudding, you're gonna get mud where it doesn't belong. Why was it a surprise to you?

I don't get your trying to save it part...if water shot out the #3 you did the wrong thing connecting everything and starting it.

You should be able to find an engine cheaper than $2k.

Easier said than done friend...I still have my old "college-rig" sitting in my garage because I just can't quite let go of it. :D

Where did he say he was surprised? Sounds like he took it like a man...

What is the proper thing to do?

I'm curious...

You're right, he is taking complete responsibility for it. Not many people his age seem capable of that. It just seemed like he went into it naively expecting nothing bad could happen.

Oh believe me I know it was all my fault. I wasn't prepared for what could happen, nor could I afford the repercussions. Not to say that I wouldn't go Off Roading again given the right set of circumstances (Snorkel, Winch, funds just in case) but this one just hit me hard.

I wasn't really surprised so much as shocked. Like the barrier of safety had been broken. I have never been in an accident and I have never gotten a speeding ticket- my ego was a little big thinking I could take on the world. It is kind of ironic that on Wednesday I was in a pit that leaked into the cabin and my intake was spared (Hell I could run the engine like that), but Friday a much less treacherous puddle got to me.

Like I said the problem with buying a new engine, is that the car's body is 15 years old. Not to mention that very same day I put my very first dent in the side finding out that an inch of leaves and a few inches of mud are more than a match even for oversized A/T tires (Turned right, brakes on, downshifting, 4x4- car slides left into a tree, barely touches it and leaves a nice dent in it :( ).

I would like to say that I am taking it like a friend. My friends have been a huge help (Keeping me cheered up, normally something I do to people; can't operate when someone isn't happy around me unless I try to cheer them up :) . And I will def admit that on my way home, taking the license plates off and emptying part of the car out, and seeing the condition it was in made me cry slightly for the first time in years (Something stupid with me- I don't ever want to seem weak so I always hold emotions in and pretend they don't affect me and try to help the others around me).

I dunno guys, I always wanted to trade my car in for a newer model, but now that I actually have to purchase a new car (This one was given to me, parents bought it off my aunt after my uncle died) and I lose my very first car, the car I taught myself and so many others manual on....damn it is hard :(

Such a long week :( I wish I could do it all over again!
