Not that I'm complaining, but eBay'ers amaze me sometimes

NFS4

No Lifer
Had an auction going for an item that I wanted to sell. Set the starting bid at .01, reserve at $150 and the BIN price at $177. Wasn't looking to make a big profit, but it seemed to be the going rate for the item.

Item has been on for three days and is scheduled to end within a few hours. People pissed around and bid and bid (some even asked me what my reserve was), but given the $177 price I figured they would just go ahead and use BIN. I guess I was wrong.

I checked the auction a few minutes ago and the auction was at $150.50. It broke the reserve so I figured it would probably end up somewhere between my reserve and what I originally set as my BIN. But nooooooo, it's gone up past $200 now and still going... Hell, there are even people with BIN of around $160-180 and they still aren't going for 'em.

Do people just not like BIN???

Ebay buyers are retarded. Things haven't gone for the fair market price on ebay since like 1998. Even before then, the "I have to win it!" mentality caused the prices to go over market value on hot auctions.

i had that "i have to win it!" syndrome like a few weeks ago when i almost bought an autographed violin -_-... i retracted my bid and then i closed my own ebay account.

pretty proud of it too.

Dear Mr. NFS4:

I am a Nigeria businessman and I am interested in your collection of Natalie Portman photos you have for sale current on Ebay. I would like to pay for these items using a Western Union money order. Please contact me if you are interested.

If the selling price is reasonable, I love BIN.

It's instant and a guarantee that I will win the auction.

i prefer the BIN thing on ebay over bidding. makes life easier, especially if the BIN price is reasonable

Same here. I very rarely make a bid on an item. If I'm looking for something I want, I find an auction with a BIN price I like, and go for it.

people like to WIN auctions.

In other news, while walking down Queens Blvd today (don't ask), I was solicited by the dudes in the white van selling stereo equipment. 3 seconds after he started speaking, I said to myself, holy fvck these things actually happen.

i think i might, seeing as i was just there today as well 🙂

It's because people get caught up in the bidding war. Some people fail to realize that there are other auctions of the SAME item out there. It's people like these that keep many of us sellers coming back for more. 😀

Yay for tard buyers. 😉

I've been listing transcoders on ebay for quite some time, all under BIN. Stupid bidders will pay MORE for a USED transcoder in an auction that they would if they bought one brand new from me. Go figure!
