Not sure if this is the right forum. It's virus e-mail related.

Hi all,

As you all would have experienced first hand the recent outbreak of various Netsky, Beagle variants.

My boss has been getting an awful lot of 'reply' e-mails from people that he claims he doesn't know. Mainly automatically generated e-mails regarding him sending out viruses or auto out of office replies from people that he doesn't know.

I've checked his computer SAV + latest defintions that his computer is not infected at all. I explained to him that the virus has most probably spoofed the 'from' e-mail address choosing his e-mail and thus he gets all these bounced mails. He doesn't seem to understand this which leads to my question.

Now he wants me to do something about it. The problem is we only have e-mail hosting at the moment so I can' block it at the server level which would solve the problem quick and simple.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Any ways I could explain to him more clearly about the situation?

Mods: If I'm in the wrong forum please move. Thanks.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

Make a filter in his email client to dump these messages in the trash? Contact the ISP who is hosting your mail accounts and ask for a filter?

Some people will never grasp the concept of forged headers, but here's an analogy: It's like putting a letter in a public mailbox without a stamp. But instead of putting YOUR address as the return address, you fill in your buddy's address. The USPS gets the letter, sees that there is a problem with it (no stamp), and returns it to the sender. Who gets the letter? Not you, even though you are the person who put it in the mailbox. It goes to your buddy because the USPS doesn't know any better, just like these mailservers don't know any better.

Good call CTR. Very nice analogy! I'll take that to the boss after Easter. Unfortunately the silly hosting company don't offer any sort of filter. I have loaded anti-spam software on his computer guess it just need to be trained to dump all these mail into trash.
