Not sure how to explain this... looking for a USB hub-type device...

Okay, my motherboard (~2 year old Epox) only has one set of USB header pins, so I have to choose between hooking up the bracket that sits in the card slot or hooking up the front USB ports on my case. I'd like to hook them both up somehow, as well as a 6-in-1 card reader, so is this something I'm going to have to rig up on my own somehow, or is there a product out there that will allow me to do what I want to do? None of the devices are of the type where the cable comes through and out the back of your case and plugs into a USB port - they all need to be connected to pins.

are you looking for something that gives you more USB ports? or more USB headers (pins) like are on your motherboard?

Essentially more headers/pins, yes. Like I said, I have a 6-in-1 card reader that mounts into a 3.5" bay, front USB ports on my case, and also a USB bracket that came with the motherboard that takes up a slot in back. All 3 devices want to connect to USB header pins on the motherboard, but I only have one set on the motherboard.

Like I said, I'm not sure if this functionality even exists... maybe there's an add-in USB card with such pins? Basically, I'm not wanting to buy a new motherboard just for more USB headers (I'm going to build a new system around Christmas time, most likely), but I would like to use my new case and card readers to their full extent before then.

Any ideas?

Okay, so maybe I should have searched first... looks like a simple PCI USB card like this one has what I'm looking for (check pics to see the header pins on the card). Probably should just pick up something like this...

...so with that, any suggestions on brands?

How about something like this?

The card reader is 'detachable', so when you need to hit the road, pop the button and out it comes. The reader will connect to a USB port on the back of your computer.

It also has two USB ports, that connect to your internal motherboard header.

I actually have ordered one of those before for a friend... pretty nifty little devices, if you can find one. Newegg used to carry them, but hasn't for a while as far as I know.

Anywho, I already have the card reader, and the front USB ports are built into my case, so that's not what I need to order... I just need something to hook them up to, like that USB card I linked to - it's not the additional (rear) ports I'm interested in, but the header pins that are present on the card.

Wonder why Newegg doesn't have them anymore? I jsut picked up one yesterday for my SFF... problem is that I have no more space to pull the cable through to the back, so gonna have to cut a hole somewhere..

Or instead of cutting a hole you could get a cheap add-in PCI USB card like I'm going to, except get one of the many ones with an internal port instead of internal header pins... :)

Installed the detachable card reader and I managed to run the cable through my SN45G in the back..

see here... I pushed down the piece of metal at top center (for the optional parallel port). It wouldn't read my CF card though, however... just kept looping an "Autoplay" window

Doesn't the SN45 have a spare USB header on the motherboard? My SB51 has an extra internal one, even after the front USB connectors are hooked up. I believe Shuttle did this just for card deaders and wireless expansion.

Yes they do indeed, but my card reader has two USB ports on the left that plug into the internal header. The card reader itself needs to be plugged into a USB port out back...
