not-so-hypothetical situation: kids, parents, and the wrong bathrooms.

Earlier today I went to bathroom here at work. There was some guy in there with his daughter, who looked to be about 5 years old, maybe 6.

Now, since public bathrooms in this country are seperated by gender, I was thinknig about this. It seems like the girl SHOULD have been old enough to use the bathroom by herself, but if she wasn't and needed her dad's help for... whatever... Would it have been more appropriate for him to take her int othe women's bathroom instead of the men's? I mean, women's bathroom only have stalls, while men's bathrooms have urinals that can leave you rather exposed, and I'm sure that many men don't want to pee in front of a 6 year old girl, and I'm pretty sure that a 6 year old girl isn't interested in watching grown men pee, although she may very well have a certain curiosity about male anatomy.

Would it have been better to take her into the woman's bathroom, where this wouldn't be an issue because of the lack of urinals? Or is a man in a woman's restroom more threatening that a girl in a men's room?

Your thoughts on the matter are welcome.

I think it's more socially acceptable for a 6 yr old girl to be in a men's restroom than it is for a grown man to be in a woman's restroom.

I think if he took her in the women's room, some woman would have excreted a brick about a grown man in their restroom. Most men wouldn't be hampered by a father taking a little girl into theirs.

No big deal, some kids don't feel comfortable being away from their parents sometimes. This was better than the daughter wetting herself.

Unless men don't know how to use a urinal, or it's a trough, there should be no problem with exposure. I'm sure she wasn't hanging out in the men's restroom longer than needed. Her dad probably waited outside the stall and took her outside when done.

As far as him taking her into the women's restroom -- completely inappropriate. And it's not a double standard -- she's a kid. It would be inappropriate for some 30-something woman to be in the men's restroom too.

Ok, so I guess it's generally accepted that when a parent needs to accompany a kid to the bathroom, they go to whichever bathroom the parent would normally go to and not the kid.

When I was in highschool a woman came into the men's locker room after swim class once. I think I was more afraid for her than any of us. :Q

I went to a concert last year. While standing there trying to take a leak. a women came up and set on the pot next to me and said "HI" and started going pee. i just said HI and asked if she was enjoying the concert. heh.

I have 5 sisters. we had to share a bathroom. I never got to go pee or take a bath without one of them comeing in. so this lady didnt bother me at all. but a buddy of mine turned around and left heh
