Wouldn't this launch 2012 (along with Windows 8)? Or are you being sarcastic with this 2013 or 2014 stuff ;)

We need Nvidia's CEO, Jen-Hsung Huang, to do a monologue on this :)

I can see this as useful for a dedicated compiling machine that's completely dependent on CUDA. For gaming, eh, not so much. Probably be stellar for ChromeOS though.

Well when their big settlement check from Intel comes along they can spend it on Denver.

The Microsoft announcement is significant. There are not that many platforms which MS supports, and as computing evolves the need for non x86 architectures will grow.

Intel has missed out on the mobile computing CPUs. As the number of personal devices outpaces the number of PCs, the importance of non-x86 architectures will grow. And ARM is indeed a leader in this space. Of course Intel is Intel and will fight back. But the x86 architecture has had a run spanning multiple decades and it is but natural that other architectures start emerging now.

if Intel didn't succeed with ditching x86 with the Itanium, then how will nvidia succeed?

Wasn't Itanium a really high profit margin product that allowed AMD to easily undercut them with 64 bit support on Opteron.

That and the Itanium came during the days when delays were normal for Intel and Itanium was the worst of them. They would promise it would release in 2006 but really came in 2008 with features disabled and clock speeds cut.
