Damn, that thing is suprasweet, one step above super :)
I love the led readout telling you EXACTLY what power is going and on what rail!
Man this is a bad time to be broke. I sure hope I can muster up some fundage when I get back from vaca to get get this.
Thanks for the post.

Good deal, though the laser pointer isn't "free" in that you have to pay $5 shipping on it. But I have no use for it anyways.

that's y i put the caveat in the title... clubit says fanless, but the thing seems to hava fan... it has active pfc, but isn't real efficient... got some good reviews, but they are all years old... but it's 2.5 to 3x more expensive at other places that are selling it...

but it's kind of funky, and reviews say it's virtually silent and has good rails under load...

Just got it and installed it today, and my observations are:

Heavy as hell. Thought they may have sent me a block of steel by mistake when I picked up the box.

Silvery outside, sort of like the magnesium alloy shell of a Panasonic Toughbook.

Bunch of extra modular cables that will probably not get any use from me.

Quiet. As in no sound at all. I took a peak with a flashlight and my fan hasn't come on in an hour of use so far.

I'm not an expert, and was just looking for a quiet power supply, so I can't tell you about any voltages/rails/blah blah.

Price is $38.99 + $9.59 shipping now. Might order another...

I just received mine today as well...

Maybe I totally missed everything, but I didn't know this had a fan until after I ordered it; and I didn't know it was modular! That was a nice surprise.

That review did scare me as well and I'll post a review asap. So far though, I'm thoroughly pleased by the asthetics and cabling.

I must concur with the silentpcreview link.
The PSU is a POS.
It's the noisiest fucking PSU I've ever used.

However, I was able to make it a lot more silent after I noticed from the reviews that the heatsinks have no thermal paste at all. I took it apart and lapped them/applied arctic silver. It did manage to be fairly silent at idle, in the winter here in socal, when my room was under 70F. But in the summer, my room usually hovers about 80F, and this thing is really noisy.
It also runs a lot cooler if your PC uses under 100W. My overvolted core2duo and geforce8800gts uses 144W, as shown on the diagnostics panel.

So verdict: Don't expect this PSU to be silent unless:
Your room us usually under 70F
You don't mind opening up the PSU, and adding thermal paste to the heatsinks
You don't have a monster overclocked system.

edit: And to add, it doesn't fit in my lian li PC65 case.

Ahh, this is probably the reason mine is quiet. It's in my house's headless file server (1 HD, no GFX, no optical drive, no sound, etc...). You changed my mind about the second purchase.

ok, this is just my personal experience, but my previous experience with MGE psu's has been bad. I had a 700W psu fail within a couple of months of purchase, and never was able to get a response from the RMA department.

Try contacting them via this info on their site

18235 Valley Blvd.,
City of Industry, CA. 91744
Telephone: 626-581-9887
Fax: 626-581-2253

I returned my 500W magnum before. The guy working in the RMA department really doesn't have it together. He's really slow and forgetful. But he does pick up, and if you bug him enough, he'll do his job.

Fortunately, this worked out to my advantage :)
I did an advanced RMA with them where they are supposed to charge my card first and ship out, and refund the money when they receive my broken unit.
The guy was too lazy to even charge my card, so I never bothered to send back the broken unit.

Actually, most reviews out there are very positive about this PSU.
But if you read the silentpc thread, you'll realize that these reviews are tightly controlled by strict terms set by MGE that does not allow the reviews to say anything negative.

So there are a lot of review sites out there that are not credible.

I'm sure I'll eventually get burned for having this attitude, however, I have never had a PSU die on me prematurely for "no reason". Until then, I'm going to keep buying these cheap ones! :)
