This really is the worst Pink Floyd song ever...

From 1973 to 1979 their albums just got progressively better with 'The Wall' being their best work ever and then a few years later they release that steaming pile of shit 'The Final Cut' 🙄

I'll nominate Dogs of War from Momentary Lapse of Reason, or some of the shit they put out with Syd Barret (there's good stuff there but some awe full stuff as well)

I would nominate "Wish you were here" as the most overrated PF song of all time. Possibly the most overrated classic/prog rock song. It's okay at best. But damn, people go on about it, and the air time is disproportionate to their other hits.

It's weak, unimaginative, contrived and it sounds like they were hungover and recovering from dysentery on recording day.

I think Dark Side of the Moon was their peak and according to Roger Waters, they themselves knew it could only be downhill from there.

But of course it is all subjective.

And yes, that is one awful awful song!

I'll have to disagree, IMO "the final cut" is an awesome album, finally a PF album that wasn't about being stoned and trippy, this was one man's hatred against war, (Roger Water's) and it's very emotional and introspective, "The gunners dream" is a masterpiece, completely.

Yeah, I love all of PF though I love some of it more than others.

Hard to believe it's over 30 years since they were an actual band. They really only existed for about 15 years. The Sid Barrett era was different and I prefer the Gilmore era but there are some gems from Barrett as well.

Just imagine what it must have been like for the early fans to see them in concert, before Sid went off the deep end.

The theme of war is very much present in all their major earlier albums as well. In fact that has been one major criticism of Roger Waters - his obsession with one subject

Anything post Roger Waters should not be considered Pink Floyd. They got legal rights to the name, but that is all.

I kinda agree with you, i do like the Division Bell though.....they are releasing a new album in October, mainly stuff that didn't make the Division Bell.

Yup, remains to be seen how that is. Hopefully nothing like the absolute crap that Eagles released around a decade or so ago as a new album.

You are correct that The Final Cut does indeed suck, but The Wall is not their finest album.
WYWH
DSoTM
Animals
The Wall
Piper
Obscured by Clouds
Saucerful of Secrets
...probably put the rest pretty much on par with each other.

It's one of the better songs on the album, along with Have a Cigar. Shine on you Crazy Diamonds is a good example of a PF song that goes on way longer than it should.

The Wall is definitely their magnum opus. Dark Side is a close second, though I can't stand Great Gig in the Sky.

I disagree, but...

...it does explain you having this sentiment, I think.

Meh.

To each his or her own, there many others out there of course.

I think it's just been played too often on the air myself, I almost cringe anytime I hear Stairway to Heaven these days from all the air play and the times playing it in bar bands.

Have to remember Roger had become an egomaniac, and put the rest of the band on the sidelines. An interview with Dave during the time frame, he stated all he did was show up, sing few lines and do a few riffs and that was it. Not bashing Roger, I love his solo stuff too. But David always said WYWH was his favorite because everyone was on the same page and the magic happened between the music and the lyrics. Big Floyd fan here, lots of book, recordings, box sets, albums. Heck, I even built my own Black Strat before Fender released one. Even my board name is from PF.
