They're watching too much crap on TV anyway, and watching too much TV in general. If the parents plop little Johhnie in front of the TV to babysit him, then they deserve to have little Johhnie pitching credit management schemes to them. Give them a book, or send them outside.

What if they allow little Johnny to watch TV for a little while (which is perfectly normal), and they come back in saying that, for example, they should go to Yes Car Credit because they'll "make sure it's an affordable monthly repayment" (that's a quote from a mother with an eight-year-old son).

Whichever way you look at it, this should not be allowed.

I have to agree its not exactly the fall of civilization...

However, shouldn't we be teaching kids to manage their own debt?

Agreed, it's not the fall of civilisation, but eight-year-olds don't need to know about taking out a homeowner loan, or consolidating their debt.
If anything, they should be taught that debt is usually a bad thing.

I'm saying, isn't the real problem here that the lesson is: if you're too dumb to handle your own paycheck, let us do it for you?

Abso-fvcking-lutely.
I'm sick and tired of these "Hey, you're in a hole because you suck at teh cash, refinance your home! Take out more loans! We're not evil... honest...." adverts.

You're a moron. How are these commercials any worse than ones telling kids about products like the latest sugary snack or worthless toy that they'll whine for hours on end until their parents give in and buy for them?

Christ, you're acting like it's porn or violence. Get a life.

That's your contribution to this thread?
Good job, newbie.

[Edit] I would have been prepared to discuss that part of things if you hadn't come in here all guns blazing. Goddamn highschoolers.

Is that the best you've got? Attack two things which are blatantly untrue? I am neither a "newbie" nor a "highschooler". Better luck next time, ass.

Fvck that man, nothing personal but I think it's a load of sh1t to petition something like this. My parents have fvcked up bigtime with money and I sure as hell wished that when I was 8 or 10 I could've nagged the sh1t out of them about it so that maybe they'd wise up and do something about it.

This is one thing I feel very strongly about as my parents' poor decisions have directly affected my life, and as a younger kid your parents are more willing to do what you ask to get you to shut up and even though they won't do something major like refinance a house cuz little Billy asks them too, they will hopefully think that "Oh sh1t, if he's already starting to question how bad things are now, maybe I'd better get off my ass and do something about it so that in 5 years when he starts understanding things more it won't be as embarassing to discuss with him."

Sorry, but I'd much rather have these kinds of ads than some of the garbage out there. It's semi-preparing the kid for the real world without forcing him/her to grow up too fast.

I could say the exact same thing of you- coming in here calling me a moron and telling me to "get a life"...

You've been here a year. Not only that, you're trolling. Ergo, newbie.

nor a "highschooler". Better luck next time, ass.

Then instead of acting like one, give people the impression that you're something other than a thread-crapping jerkoff.

I've been here since Anand was running a Geocities site. Don't let this account fool you. I know, it's hard, your feeble mind is easily confused.

As for being a thread crapping jerkoff, well that's the first thing you've gotten correct in this thread. I am a thread crapping jerkoff, when it's warranted. This is the stupidest online petition I've ever seen.

Calm thyself, no one really cares if your a newb or a supposed long-time lurker, don't thread crap regardless of the thread, just leave it alone.

Phil, this is a waste of time.

1. Parents watch this crap too. Even if that's not the point of the adverts., caveat emptor.
2. There are worse commercials on at the same time, same channel. AntiEvertying may be rough, but his point about sugar packed cereal commercials is right. I'll make the same point - the flame.
3. If you are a good parent, and you're concerned, then stop your children from watching these shows.
4. Don't put your morals on my shoulders. This is hardly a crime, so let's leave the moralities up to the individual not society, or worse yet, the gov't.
5. Show me an online petition that has changed ANYTHING by itself.

Moo.
