That "legal definition" needs to be expanded.
I agree.

I never really realized you were an officer of the law until a few recent posts of yours.
How do you feel about people calling you "pigs", and stuff? I mean, surely you can understand where it comes from?
I honestly wish there were more checks and balances on the officer level. The only reason the poilice scare me is because of their ability to almost do whatever they want if they feel like it. 🙁
Not accusing you of anything, of course. But I think there is a problem when I feel like an officer is more of a threat to me than a help.
I am sure you're one of the better officers out there, though. 🙂
I'm just wrapping up my training with a municipal PD, so I'll probably be sworn in within the month.
Of course I don't like it, but it's part of the job...and I'll be called much worse.
I don't think civilians are aware how many restrictions there are on our conduct & behavior. Just thumbing through a few of my directives & department policies can be overwhelming. You have to be so many different things: a instrument of the government, a law-enforcer, a peace keeper, a counselor, a good listener, etc. You have to be professional, courteous, friendly, and willing to kill &/or beat the sh!t out of people who don't comply. Not only that, but you have people watching you CONSTANTLY and many of them will file a complaint at the drop of a hat. I always knew there were a lot of variables to being a cop, but until you're "in" you really can't imagine just how many there are.
The thing is that the media only reports the "bad." You don't hear about the good things we do, and if they do report them they'll shove it back a few pages. We fvck up and it's on the front page...hence the "front-page test" to all of our actions.
