NOT HOT : Staples no longer to price match internet prices.

Went into Staples yesterday to price match an Epson 820 Photo Stylus printer. Their price was $99 and the net price was $83 and then I wanted to use the $15 off $75 coupon. The manager (whom Ive known for years) explained that he had just gotten back from a managers meeting and they were informed they can only price match retail stores or if its a print out off the net, it must be from a company who has a retail store front. I ended up pricematching to Costco who had the printer for $89 but my local store wasout of stock. I drove 18 miles to the next Staples and tried the process all over again and the employee there told me that yesterday his manager had informed all the employees that there would be no more price matching to internet stores. This was in Alabama, so maybe its not corporate wide.

mis-information

this may be better suited in brag-and-moan, as you were lied to by a staples store, but it is not a deal.

edit: maybe "lied to" to is a little strong, but that is only a local policy. It maybe worth your while to argue, as it is not a corporate policy.

The manager must have been taking a nap during the meeting. The truth is you cannot use the coupon when you PM coz Staples will PM 110%.

Must just be in my area then. Ive been told the same thing by 3 different people from 2 different stores. Hmm

Oh well, I took advantage while I could. Good thing my Office Depot takes Staples coupons. 😉)

not true, another specific incident taken way out of context. the bvg program is still available to many cardmembers.

How exactly does this work then? Could i find a Geforce 4 at $150 at pricewatch.com and they will pricematch it? I assume the two items would have to be exactly the same.

THIS IS 100% bogus... the policy has NOT changed

I work at Staples in VT and the policy on online pming has not changed and will not change for some time to come.... i just confirmed this with my manager who has been working for the company for over 10 years... the pm + coupon depends but online pricematching is here to stay case closed....

so what's the deal? can I still pricematch with Staples? I had tried before but everytime I get shutdown... now my GF and I want to get a digital camera and hope to PM staples to a website we found off pricegrabber.com. Can I still do it?

Give it a try. Some people are still having luck and the worst that could happen is the manager could say "no."

If that were true,it wouldnt be a change in policy for my local staples.Their policy has always been to find some excuse why they wont match even a retailer like buy.com,even when its in stock...
