I know I should be posting this is in the Off-topic or bitch and moan area but I doubt that NewEgg Vp or representatives would see this thread otherwise.

What's the deal with all the rebates on NewEgg lately? It's becoming more and more like WorstBuy. I stopped going to BestBuy because I didn't want to deal with all the rebates, the filling out forms, the photocopying, the waiting 6 months to find out that it was "dissapproved", and arguing with the rebate company for days. I think I've gotten a few gray hairs from dealing with all these rebates.

A year ago I would go on NewEgg and see great prices, as is, without dealing with all the annoying rebates. I would rather pay a little bit more for an item without rebates than an item cheaper with rebates.

I know I will be getting responses from you guys saying 'if you don't like it shop elsewhere'. Well you know what, I do. But I'd hate to see a great company go south and become another WorstBuy.

I believe I read somewhere that BestBuy will be getting rid of rebates sometime in the near future and I hope you, NewEgg, will be following suit.

If you guys feel the same way as I do, please feel free to comment, otherwise NewEgg will just think this is not a big deal and keep pushing more and more rebates down our throats.

say this by buying elsewhere. ZZF, Monarch, etc all have great deals that rival Newegg these days. Rebates are annoying but that is the way for companies to make money so tahts why i understand having them and just remeber to send em in. and getting a check is like xmas in the mail :D

I'm a long time customer of Newegg too.

Just this year I decided to try ZipZoomFly because of this, I was very pleased with ZZF. I will be switching to ZipZoomFly more and more if this continues. For large orders I'm still going to stick with NewEgg for a little longer though.

As far as this thread being off topic ... I'll let the mods decide. But it probably whouldn't have had visability with NewEgg Reps if it was in another forum.

When you actually start your post in the Hot Deals section with "NOT HOT," shouldn't this just maybe make a light bulb go off in your head that you shouldn't be posting it there? There is not even a deal posted here at all. Mods, please lock...

Thank you, I was beginning to think I was alone in this.

The purpose of this thread is to let NewEgg reps know our dissatisfaction with the move to more and more rebates. Placing this thread in any other location will defeat its purpose.

However, with only 2 people showing their dissatisfaction, I don't think the impact of my goal will be realized.

edit: spelling

Lock. And who is responsible for the rebates? Newegg or the manufacturer?

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the Merchant(Newegg) and the manufacturer negotiate for the rebates.

Nothing wrong with bringing this to light. I hope the mods let this stay open for a bit so the people's voices can be heard. If you don't got something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

I rarely buy things from NewEgg because their prices simply aren't as great as they used to be. I use AT RTPE and Pricegrabber mainly to find prices of items I'm looking for (that I'm not waiting for an awesome deal on) and NewEgg is rarely at the top. Plus now I have to pay extra for Fedex because UPS always seems to take 1-2 days longer than Fedex in my area. Their customer service used to be great, seems to be a mixed bag these days.

I like ZZF because with every order I've placed, its gone out the next business day. "Free" 2nd day is nice too. I've heard horror stories about a return process at ZZF, but luckily I've not been there yet. eWiz is okay too, I'd order if they had a good deal. I'm not going near Monarch except for a super hot deal due to my first & only experience with them, which I won't go into here, but the point is NewEgg is getting a little long in the tooth. BBY once upon a time was a decent store with decent prices and a minimum of BS. Walk in their now and you need to hike your panks up with all the sh!t in that place.

It would be nice if NewEgg wouldn't go rebate crazy and maybe realize their prices aren't very competitive, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

Why lock??
It has to do with Newegg HOT DEALS not being so hot anymore. Where's the deal or incentive to buy something at retial prices and then wait for a rebate form to get "lost in the mail" or not approved because you didn't dot an "i" I hate rebates and unless the price before rebate is lower than msrp i won't buy it*.

*most of the time. I did break down and bought 2GB of memory from Fry's Monday for $140 in store and a $40 rebate.

Rebates suck. I've spent a ton of money at the egg, and have now went from just buying everything there out of convenience to actually getting individual pieces of stuff from different sites. A lot of the systems I build are for other people, and quite frankly I get tired of having to do all of these rebates and wait for them every time I build someone a system.

One difference between Newegg and a lot of other companies that use mail in rebates to sweeten the deal......I have yet to have a Newegg related rebate denied. In fact, I bought an optical drive from them one time, with a rebate, and noticed when I received the drive that the rebate specifically stated that you needed to send in the barcode (nothing new there). However, the optical drive they had advertised this rebate for was an oem model, so no retail box (thus, no barcode).

I called up Newegg, talked to a CSR, and within 5 minutes, I had the value of the rebate credited back to my credit card. Thus the reason why Newegg enjoys a reseller rating of over 9 out of 10, and why they'll continue to get my business.

All I can say is, I feel for you if you don't want to do rebates, but I don't consider them to be that big of a hassle.

Rebates have been a part of the deal shoppers experience for a while now so Newegg jumping in the boat is not suprising. That being said, I have only had one item with a rebate from newegg in the last year and that is with 20+ purchases so the whole rebate thing is not effecting me much. I still use them along side ZZF, buy.com, monarch, and whatever else pricegrabber points me to.
