OK, OK... I jumped the gun on 1100. Good catch 😉

As far as the CW soap goes... I e-mailed Lightspeed yesterday to see if they would be willing to do something similar to rackshack. We will have to wait and see I guess. 🙂

Yahoo!! Paypal ruled against Shawn. He failed to respond to my dispute within 10 days. Therefore the following:
Dear Hig,

PayPal has concluded our investigation of your Buyer Complaint.

------------------------------
Complaint Details
------------------------------

Transaction Date: 06/21/2002
Transaction Amount: -$85.00
Case Number: XXXXXXXXXXX
Seller's Name: SHAWN WHITE
Seller's Email: paypal@cyberwings.com

Our investigation has determined that the seller is at fault, and as a
result we have attempted to recover your funds. $77.96 has been
credited to your account. This is the maximum amount we were able to
recover. Please allow up to 5 days for this adjustment to be
reflected in your account.

We appreciate your business, and regret this experience. To make
sure future transactions proceed smoothly, we suggest reading
these Security Tips:

Sincerely,
Complaint Resolution Department

This is not over he still owes me $7.04 plus it appears the account is tapped out. That is disturbing news for the folks that are behind me in line. His account is restricted as of now according to Paypal since he still owes me money. Not sure if it was restricted before and the paypal rep to his credit would not tell me. So don't expect any sales until he gets that resolved or finds a new way to take in money. I feel a little better but not great.

The saga continues...................

When did you sign up to CW? Was it over 30 days before you requested a refund?

Shawn has instructed PayPal to do the automatic refund, so that must be the reason you are getting your $78. The rest I think PayPal kept as a service charge.😉

For those of you that have already switched your DNS away from CW and are trying to backup your data, try editing the HOSTS file on your system to point your computer back to the original CW IPs. This should let you back in, of course assuming that the servers are actually still up.

Hope this helps....

Problem with CW Media Converter solved ...

<CEO-Shawn> Says in respond to Cogent that we blame them for improper hardware installation, that this is not the case.
<CEO-Shawn> Says that when we referring to *Media Converter* we did refer actually to an HTML EDITOR.
<CEO-Shawn> will not comment any further on the subject due to the confidentiality agreement we have in place with all our suppliers.
<CEO-Shawn> Will update you as soon as *I* find another solution to our Media Converter (or as many of you prefer to call it - The HTML Editor).
<Techhh> entered the room (was hashed by <Jan-CWStaff)
<CEO-Shawn> Wants to let you know that our IRC Customer Service Channel is for invited Only. If you want to be invited, Please make sure that you have paid your Zap fees for this week.
<Techhh> trying to leave room (but getting tied down by the CWStaff and getting kicked again and again)
<CEO-Shawn> Wants to stress that due to the many hours that I have spend in monitoring the various boards and chatroom, I was unable to shower and I was removed from the new supper DC b/c of smell. I will be spending this weekend at the Tequila Inn, in TJ and will report at the beginning of the week to Washington DC.
<Geek4Rent> CEO-Shawn has to leave and go to dry his clothes after swimming over the river to TJ, we will keep the room moderated till further notice from CEO-Shawn.
<Techhh> finally is allowed to leave the room (Kicked by Geek4Rent and whoever was close by)
<JanCWStaff> As CEO-Shawn has instructed us, we will have late on today our EMAIL punctual and working, so you can send us your credit cards numbers, your social Security Numbers, Bank Account Information, Your Phone Numbers, and all other personal information that you can supply.
<Techhh> entered the room very confused and incoherent (got kicked and punched on the head by Shawn on his way out)
<Willowdream> <JanCWStaff> - You know Jan that we support Shawn, please tell him that we will hold hands, and he can rest assure that we will be here when he comes back.
<Geek4Rent> Can someone please give me a hand to carry the body of <Techhh> out of this room ?
<JanCWStaff> I want to remind everyone here, that if you pay your Zap dues for the week, you will be invited again NEXT week FREE to pay your dues again.

Just to answer some of the questions that popped up:

Am I wasting my time waiting for some slim hope that my site will go back up for one day so I can grab my forums out of it? I think it was on the Maine DC since it went down just before the July 4th holiday.

If it went down before July 4 than it was on the Maine servers and yeah, you probably are wasting your time hoping to be able to get that data. Various people have been begging LightShip (who owns the datacenter thoae Maine servers were in) to bring them back online for a short time so CW account holders can get their data and so far it hasn't happened. I personally don't think they will because if they were so inclined they would have done it by now. You can always check this thread for updates.

Ok so far I've heard hardware failures including: routers, switches, media converters, and fiber cable ends. Am I missing any???

As of now, no, but there's always a chance with that wacky Shawn running things. Stay tuned. He has to come up with an explanation for this latest delay in releasing the questionnaire, and my guess is it will involve some kind of malfunctioning hardware. Maybe we should start some kind of a pool? What hasn't he replaced?

wow.. i can't believe I read about eight pages of this....damn

Seriously folks, to put this to bed(I know Ananadtech will appreciate closer on the matter as it will save on HD space)

Regardless of whether or not the Cyberwings Co. was a scam, I say leave them.

Many of you are wasting so much time regarding, at best, one of the most poorly-handled companies I have ever encountered.

Regardless of how much you paid, there were indeed some terms of service, and for a large portion of their clientele they failed miserably.

I would either pursue legal action/recover funds or just plain forget about them. They are UNDOUBTEDLY horrible in terms of service, and for that they do NOT deserve further business.

I am still bewildered at how many people are sticking it out. Just because there is a slim chance in hell that this is indeed an honest entrepreneur, you stand by his side. Then, when you people go out into the sunlight, you criticize Computer shops for their high prices, websites for their intolerance of bad customers and etc.

I for one, think that this matter was either a get-rich scheme gone wrong or a straight-scam.

Please. You people deserve better.

If I was still in contact with my HS buddies(unfortunately they went to College far away and so did I) I would tell them to hack the guy so bad he wouldn't know what hit him.

P.S.

I will say this honestly, without any personal biases, and regardless of the fact that the man is obese, fugly, homosexual, and a dotcom guy:

This F-ing asshole has proved to be the worst business man I have ever heard of, always failing to put the truth and his customers welfare first. For that he deserves not business at all, that is if there was ever a "real" business to begin with.

how is it that they are still in business, still trying to sell sell sell, when they have been delinquent on so many accounts for such a long time???

By the way, I hope none of you take my statements above personally, because they are only against the small yet present consensus that CW has a chance.

I respect many of you for your knowledge and talents, and realize that I should not judge a person by their "threads"

one question though...is it true that Dixiesys has been going down lately?

I was thinking about them for web-hosting but now I'm not so sure

is there any way to file a group action suit against these dumbasses for failure to provide agreed upon services?

Yes you could hire a lawyer for a class action law suit. but you wont o nutin but make the lawyer richer!

Y'all do know this media converters that he's had problems with... they are rather inexpensive ($100-$250), and are usually warantied for years or often lifetime.

Also where are the 2 backup connections he was talking about having??? Should they have been available while these things are worked out????

Did someone say "Flux Capacitor"? heh 😀

I can't believe I had my site hosted for a whole month for a dollar! It was great, think I maybe looking to other solutions after spending the last hour looking at what everyone has been posting...

Truely though, this is not becoming of a hosting service to keep their customers out of the loop for over a month when they spoke about 99.99% uptime on their site... before that went down as well.

I think anyone that hasn't already moved their site, should look elsewhere... maybe to a company that has a phone number and REAL address for people to use for contact? Least I'm only out a buck... :Q

CEO-Shawn just notified the ppl at #cw-supporters that all sites will be backed up in full on Floppy Discs, immediately following the floppy disc sale at RadioShack, this weekend.

I have always contended that there is hope....

hahahahahahah 🙂

I hope he goes all out and gets Double Sided, High Density disks!

After purchasing over 20 servers and such, do you think he has the funds left to purchase the DS HD diskettes? His best option is the 5 1/4" floppies! After all, he's gotta save for the next "outage." My bet is that it's the Rack's power supply which blew a fuse after having all the servers plugged into one power outlet since the others are being "worked on."
