Like many of you I got a "free wireless web modem" from sprint that was supposed to deactivate after 2 months. It didn't deactivate and I just got a bill for $45.24 even though I never talked to a customer representative or signed up for the account. I talked to a csr and they were able to reverse the bill and deactivate the modem. I called 1-888-788-4727. The old thread is archived here:
link Hope this helps someone.

I also got a bill here for 1.58, but called them up about it. They said that it was for taxes, and since my account wasn't being used, they just closed it and I didn't have to pay anything

I got a bill with a whopping $109.83!! I used it quite a bit, but not anywhere close to the 2500 free minutes.

this is turning out to be a major pain. First I called the 888 #, and the person tells me I have to talk to cancellation. I talk to the cancellation person, and they tell me they can't touch it because it is a demo account - they tell me to call the regional office. I speak to someone at regional, and they tell me I have to talk to the local rep. I call this guy, explain the story for the millionth time, and he's not sure what to do - he's has to talk to his supervisor and get back to me.

sound like they really screwed up the running of this promotion

has anyone not used the modem and still got a bill?

i have not gotten any bills yet. the reason could be that it might be sent to my old employer's address. since i got canned, all those mails are not going to be forwarded to me.

should i bother to call them and ask about my account?

bzo -- can you let us know what's next?

thx!

If you know your account # I would call and cancell. They were very pleasant to me. Be sure to document the person you talk to for future reference.:)

success!

I found another number on the sleeve that came around the modem box - 877-789-3969. The people at that number were able to help me out.

I'm guessing I had a little more trouble cancelling because of the dollar amount on the bill. It seems like people with small amounts are having no trouble at the general 888-788-4727 number.

oh my freakin god.
i just got a bill for $341
i called the number on the bill 888-788-4727
and the rep said it was for 741 minutes of web time, which is way under 2500,
she said i had to mail stuff to london, KY if i wanted to dispute...

im trying the other number now

thank goodness,
the CS rep : stacy.
kept me waiting for a while and went to talk to her manager and stuff, but eventually got the charges taken away.
apparently sprint starts your 60 days or 2500 min from the time you signed up, which was in october, even though my first use of the modem was late in nov. so by the time i was still using it, i was already out of free time. luckily im all clear now..

I was able to cancel my unexpected $45 dollar phone bill using the regular customer service number. The CSR's name was Roy.

I tried connecting earlier this month and it doesn't connect anymore. It's probably deactivated already, though I never called to get it cancelled. I haven't received anything from them, so I hope that's a good thing.

I got two bills - one for about $3, the other for $1.47, I think.

The irony? Yes, I signed up twice - because I never got my modem the first time. (so I certainly never used it!) Apparently they actually think they sent me two different ones, and are billing me for both! Amazing.

Yeah I got a bill for $2.45 the other day. I called and said "what they hell? I used this modem for 10 mins and gave it to a co-worker (translation: I sold it on Ebay). The Sprint guy said "well it's been closed for 3 months, not sure but I'll take this off".

Then ironically I get an email from someone at Sprint asking me how I liked my modem and such, so I replied telling him how pathetically slow and useless was and then reamed him for billing me for something that was suppose to be free. He didn't reply.

I got a past due notice yesterday for $71.67. After calling the toll free numbers and getting nowhere with more than 1 CSR, I gave up after asking for the CSR's supervisor on 2 different occasions, and getting put on infini-hold.

ME after hitting a brick wall with CSR: Please let me speak with your supervisor

CSR: One moment sir,

Click

<silence>

ME: Hmm, not even any soothing elevator music

<silence continues for oh 45 minutes or so>

ME: Battery going dead on cordless phone, must give up........expletives deleted.

I went through this routine TWICE with two different CSR's on both toll free numbers. Their story is that my 60 day trial ended at midnight on December 15th and the charges are for 165 minutes that I used on december 16th. Its funny that the modem didn't even work when I tried it on the 17th. It sounds like this is a case of an unsynchronised and utterly incompetant promotion. I also know that Sprint has recently announced massive layoffs in their PCS division, so don't expect shiny happy CSR's when you call. I'm guessing that the people that ran this promotion in the fall have since been laid off, leaving us in the position of retraining the remnant employees of this soulless corporation into rectifying their transgressions. If anyone has gotten anywhere with reversing their charges successfully, please give the phone number, and name of CSR who fixed this problem. Thanks in advance!

This deal sounded hot at first, but, knowing it was tied to sprint service I passed.

They purposley complicate the billing plans so that if you sign up for 2500 minutes you get billed for a Base Plan + X Night & weekend + Y Prime Time -X2 Special Night & Weekend Credit -Y2 Prime Time Credit, etc, etc. Then they'll sneak in some $$$ fees like $5.00 internet access charge and -$5.00 internet access promo and other charges/credits. In the end you are paying a lot more than "free" or whatever you thought you were going to pay.

To top it off, They put all this crap on different pages with different billing dates and you try and verify that it adds up to your $x.xx a month plan and pull your hair out.

So you try calling their CSR's and get put on hold for 2hrs (if you can even get through).

Anyway, after my 1yr is up on my contract I'm fairly positive I'll be switching--but who knows. I suspect the other Cellular providers are similarly screwed up.

Good luck all!!!!

I signed up twice for the modem giveaway, only got once. my second signing was because I hadnt gotten the modem yet. well, they billed me taxes for both. I ve had a cell account with them for like 3.5 years now, they were just charging extra taxes on it. the forst two reps i spoke to hadnt a clue, the third put me on hold for like 25 minutes, then hung up on me. the forth rep (after i calmed down about being disconnected) explained that the charges had been removed from my account all the back to when they first started occurring. my head felt like it was glowing from all the cell time i was using.
I only used the wireless modem when @home went south. I was soooo glad to get back on cable internet after being down for about 8-10 days. using this wireless modem was painful in that interim period. It (the box its in anyways) is now collecting dust on my shelf...
