Not going to the bar any more for lunch

Every once in a while I like going to the bar for lunch on a Friday just to get out of the building for a little bit. So today four of us went. One guy (Sam) likes to put away 3-4 beers at lunch and get a buzz on, the rest of us have to actually work in the afternoon so we will have one beer.

For whatever reason today the beer hit Sam pretty hard and he was too buzzed. We're crossing the street to go back to work and I'm glad that I am done with Sam for the day. But while we're still in a group, Karen (manager from Accounting) walks past us.

Sam (much too loud): "Did you see her shoes?"
We ignore him.
Sam (still too loud): "Who wears shoes like that?" (louder, making sure Karen can hear) "They don't fit! Toes hanging over the front!"
Dennis (quietly): Hey Sam, shut the hell up.
Sam (nearly yelling now): "HER DAMN FEET LOOK LIKE EAGLE CLAWS CLUTCHING A BRANCH! <tries to imitate an eagle's screech multiple times>"

Karen is a very nice easy going person, and now I'm smeared by association with that clown. This is why I try not to socialize with co-workers. Inevitably, someone does something stupid and you are guilty by association. But if had seen this but not been part of the group, I probably would have laughed at the ridiculousness of Sam's comment.

We got a guy like that...that's why booze lunches were banned about 8 years ago 🙁 Our boss used to buy too!

wow, you can drink beers for lunch? instant fired for my job... and that guy was a tool, you should have said (loud enough for karen to hear) "stfu dickwad, youre drunk!" and let nature takes its course.

He probably would have been fired on the spot where I work. We have a zero tolerance policy in effect for drinking during working hours. Even during lunch 🙁

We dont have any policies against it, but for the most part, nobody does it unless we just finished a big project or something. Now, after work, my firm will sponsor many happy hours 🙂
