Not getting the performance i should

Hello all.

I dont know if this question can be answered here, since it refers to a game. But, i've tried other forums and nobody can give me a real answer.

Anyhow, my specs are listed in my sig.

During play of Counter-Strike: Source.. i get an FPS that will range from 20-230 depending on what i'm looking at, or if i'm in combat.

I've lowered my settings to the point where they are under what the game itself recommends for my computer, and probably even what others are running with lower system specs.

Lots of people i talk to with 9800 pro's and such get a much much better fps than i do. I'm out of any ideas as what to do. Every driver is updated, and i've even reinstalled windows.

I'm running SP1, which isnt mentioned in my specs.

Any possible help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

Sorry if this is an odd question.

Have you tried 3DMark yet? That will tell you if it's just Source or a larger software/hardware issue.

Source is locked around 100,110 fps, meaning you can't get 230, so I don't know where you got that from. Also trying 3dmark 05 is a good idea as it will tell you whether it is a game issue and you have some settings enabled that degrade performance or whether it's a driver/hardware problem in general. Remember to turn down aa and af in the nvidia control panel and turn it to high performance.

I have netgraph_3 turned on in the console. And it reads 230 FPS when i'm in a hallway. So either the game is going nuts or something. I can even take a screenshot. Yeah i dont even have AA or AF enabled, which is weird.

I havent tried 3dmark but i'm going to now. Thanks for the suggestions!
