i know this is probably a a very simple solution, but i haven't been able to figure it out

how do i get games to run in 1600x1200 on my 1920x1200 monitor without running them in windowed mode?

i assume there is a setting somewhere in my graphics card configuration that will prevent the game from stretching and will just put black bars at the top and bottom of the screen?

if it matters, i have a radeon 4850 and am using ATI catalyst control center

thank you

If the games are not written with that many pixels, you won't be able to get to 1920x1200. Just lower your monitor resolution to match the max allowed by the game maker.

If the game resolution is set for 1600x1200 then thats what the monitor will run at. But its scaling itself down and streaching the image to fill the screen. There isn't really a way around it. Sure it would be nice for it to file the screen and just leave black bars on either side so the image isn't streached but it doesn't work that way unless the game is programed for that.

Unless (for ATI cards) you set the Catalysts Control Center -> Graphics Settings -> Digital Panel -> Attributes -> Image Scaling to "Use Centered Timings".

All depends what games your playing. Most newer games can do 1920x1200 by changing the games resolution setting.
