not-exactly PXE flashing

I was thinking about using a NIC to flash a normal motherboard ROM chip, but when I got around to trying it, I discovered that NICs use physically smaller ROMs 🙁. Anyone know a way around this? and where I can pick up both types cheaply?

(I'm posting here b/c similar posts got no responses in GH & networking)
