Not enough VM to run Windows.

I have a computer that I built myself and recently I have installed 2 more hard drives to it and a 1 gig RAM chip. About a week or 2 after I had them installed my computer started showing an error message saying that it didn't have enough virtual memory to run windows and then it reboots and trys to start again only to do the same thing.

My system is made from an Antec SOHO file server tower with 400 watt smart power, a Gigabyte GA-8IEXP motherboard, a 1 GB and a 512 MB RAM chip both made by Kingston, a Pentium 4 2.53 GHz processor, a 30 GB, 120 GB, and a 180 GB harddrive (all 3 are Western Digital), an Aopen 56x CDROM, a Ricoh MP5120A DVD+RW, a Sony FDD drive, and a Chaintech GeForce4 4200 64 MB videocard. And I have Windows XP Pro installed.

I have tested my RAM chips with memtest86 and nothing was wrong with them. I have the 1 GB in the first slot and the 512 MB in the second slot. I have tried taking the 512 MB chip out and leaving the 1 GB one in and vice versa but it still says the same thing on bootup. I've tried completely unhooking the 180 and 120 GB drives and just leaving the 30 GB one in but still the same thing. I have the 30 GB (which is the one I have running Windows) on an IDE slot by itself as a Master and I have the 180 GB (Master) and the 120 GB (Slave) hooked up to the Ultra ATA controller card that came with the 180 GB harddrive. I'm using the 2.0.0210.2 BIOS for the Ultra ATA controller.

I would really appreciate any help or advice on how to fix this problem because it has me stomped. I have no idea what to do now.:disgust:

Virtual memory is hard drive space and has nothing to do with your ram. It sounds like your primary hd is full.

SYMPTOMS
After you try to log on to your Windows 2000-based computer by using a valid user name and password, the Loading your personal settings dialog box is displayed, followed by the Saving your settings dialog box. However, the desktop does not appear, and the Welcome to Windows logon screen is displayed again.

NOTE: If the paging file is located on the system or boot partition, you may also receive the following warning message before returning to the "Welcome to Windows" logon screen:

[Limited Virtual Memory]
Your system has no paging file, or the paging file is too small.

I've heard of this problem before, and while KB article doesn't mention XP, the similarity between 2k and XP could mean it applies here, too.

From what I've seen of others with this problem, Solution 5 (fdisk /mbr) seems to fix the problem most often with the least effort needed.
