there aren't enough perogies in this world. why don't fast food places offer perogies as a side? they are the best use of potatoes ever. i think someone could open up a chain of restaurants with perogies as the main staple of their menu. think of all the different things they could stuff them with. there could be dozens of flavours and several different ways to cook / prepare them.

just the other night i had a BLT with a side of perogies, boiled and then fried with onions and bacon. it was better than any combo from a fast food place i can think of.

but you can have them prepared this way if you choose. i've had some fine breaded and fried perogies in my time. some of the best, actually.

There's a diner down the block from my office that serves only Hungarian and Slovenian sausage/sandwiches, cabbage rolls, chicken paprikash, pierogies, cabbage and dumplings, and mashed potatoes. The place is always lined up out the door. So while I do agree with your statement, I am apparently living the dream.

Best part is that the diner is an offshoot of a butcher/market, so you can buy all of the homemade sausage and other stuff there for home.

Now I wish I had cash with me for lunch. $7 = a giant spicy hungarian sassich sammich, a big glop of cabbage and dumplings, a pieogi the size of my fist, and a drink. Northeast Ohio may be lacking in some areas, but not when it comes to that crap.

I think there's a hot dog place called Yokko's in PA that sells deep fried perogies.

At work we had some event and I picked up a bunch of cherry? and potatoe perogies and they were damn delicious. It was a Russian place I think and they also made this really awesome fruit salad.

i was fortunate to grow up on this stuff. We lived in a big house with the whole family.
me,sister,father,mother had upstairs. Grandmother(BaBa) Grandfather(DeDe) mothers sister and brother downstairs. Grandparents came from the Ukraine after ww1.
never have been able to find some Ukrainian food as good as BaBa made

"kapusta" "pedaheh"(with potato or cabbage) "meat on a stick" "holubchi" my grandfather used to like this jelly stuff with meat in it. (i hated it) "potato pancakes"
there were these crunchy fried dessert things(covered in icing sugar)

Last summer I had 2000 of these in our spare freezer, but they were for a big picnic that my wife's family was cooking for, I got to keep some though.

yeah that's 4 hours away. there's a Ukranian hall in Windsor that sells them once a week or so, I'm going to check it out.

Mmmm....I just ate and I'm hungry again. My mother-in-law makes some amazing homemade perogies. I like to fry them up and coat them in Frank's Red Hot. Sooooo good!

Perogies are awesome. Only discovered them maybe 2 years ago and I always buy at least 2 boxes at the grocery store.
