Well, I had a 2.5 Freshman year.

Now it is up to 2.9 (second quarter sophomore).

I think I am getting a 4.0 this quarter.

I'm still around 🙂

Wow, you make school sound simple and easy...

I dont bother to go to many of my classes, they are boring, I do the homework, when im not busy doing something else, and I study for tests (well not yet this year)

long story short my gpa is down to 2.9, i had a few 3.6 semesters but then one semester forgot to drop a few classes and it messed it up

as long as i finish with at leas a 3.0 i will be happy, i graduated from HS with a 4.0 and Valedictorian..... gen eds are the suck, wish i went to a tech school (but then i wouldnt have found many good looking chicks to date 🙁)

These two quarters, I have been on the second priority for registration. All the good classes are taken.
That really affected my grades because I really didn't enjoy it a couple classes (ex. psychology). Plus, I really
can't get used to taking a midterm/exam in a room with 500 people, it feels very intimidating.

Actually I did college in highschool for 15 math credits, 3.4, 3.0, 3.5 respectively. I hope those credits will save my @$$.

don't worry about b-school... what classes did you take? sciences are almost always harder than soft science/ humanities type courses...

what course is this btw?

psychology 101 destroyed me last quarter. Right now taking macro, intro to law and a writing class. I am not good with law at all, but it's a requirement to go to business school, so essentially I am screwed.

second priority? like you can't register during period I registration? why would that be? also, you should really keep on checking for openings.... there has never been a class i couldn't get into... because i would spend my vacation hitting the refresh button for the time schedule periodically 😛 eventually someone drops and you jump on it. a good time to do this is when grades for the most recent quarter are released... there are always a few people that drop courses then. anyways yea, keep on checking back.

if you want to get good grades, you need to make sure you know the material... you need to know what your weaknesses are, and do what it takes to fix them. if you can't find the answer in the book, go to your prof's office hours.

I got a 3.2 last quarter (freshman in biomedical engineering). This quarter I started off with a 26% on my physics midterm :-( holy crap that's an ass-rape class. and the average was 55 or so. I'm doing pre-med and I HAVE to get a 3.6 to be a "competitive" applicant to med school. 3.6 in engineering....wow, I'm gonna have to start busting my ass studying 🙁

that's the ticket! if you haven't got any scruples you can do what my friend did. went to a doctor and confirmed that he had a "learning disability". he was able to take open book finals and take as long as he wanted. sounds like you could claim an "anxiety" disorder. heh heh heh

I had a low 70s avg in my first semester in Comp Eng..not sure what that translates to in GPA.

Freaking Engineering really screws you over...I dunno how people find social studies/arts difficult? I have a social science class right now and its a breeze as well as being quite interesting. It seems like I'm the only one who is awake in lectures listening to the Prof.

Now take 4 math/engineering courses together..thats hard!

You might want to manage your time a little better... Office hours are very useful if you are having trouble in a course...

I did very well last semester... but only because I studied and worked when I needed to... went to plenty of office hours or at least asked others when I had trouble...

Being a freshman at one time, everything was so fast. Now that Im a junior, I can look back and say its was a piece of cake and I wish I could start over. Its a learning process. I got a 2.5 GPA my first quarter, 2.2 next quarter, to be followed by a 3.83. Just hang in there.

ditto.

Listen to me Uncle Wai, do ANYTHING to turn your grades around. <3.0 is not good, that's cuz there's a lot of people who do a lot better. I have only a 3.04 cuz i phucked around too much in my first 2 years. Now I regret it. I see you and you're only a freshman and you have plenty of time to turn things around. Biz school is not the end of all things. Don't jump into it just because everyone else is doing it.

There's plenty of professional schools you can look at like med, pharmacy, foreign relations, law, education, etc. You'd better off finding something you enjoy where you can excel at.

I regret not doing better cuz I'm essentially out of luck in getting into a good grad school. At least right now you have a chance. so go do it for me, *sniff*. To you college kids, grades DO matter.

2.9 is certainly not good but really depends on your major... I mean if you take business or something and you get 2.9.. then you really have to find out what you are doing for the whole sem.. I was in CS major and I got like 3.5 for first, then 2.5 for second then the third sem I got like 2.67 something.. I figured out CS might not be something for me because my math sucks.. I don't like math so I just got B and passed the cal 1 and 2.. then I transfer to MIS business I got like 3 something.. easy major = easy grade = more competition.

I'm in the middle of my 3rd year, EE. I have like a 2.7 My "other" grades are actually bringing down my GPA. I haven't gotten less then a B in any of my engineering classes. Stupid math. Actually, it should be higher since there are two D's that will be striken from the records😀

I'm sitting at a 2.83, as a Sophomore trying my hardest to graduate with a degree in Physics in 2005.

IIRC, cut off for grad school (at least masters programs) is at a 3.0. Any possible way for me to get in < 3?

That's gonna make it tough. You'd better have some research (i.e. atleast 1.5 to 2 yrs) under your belt and stupa-ridiculo-awesome references and letters of recomendations.

...or just bring it up above a 3. Honestly, it's not that hard, spend another year if that's what you wanna do.

3.0 GPA average in Engineering. I'm hanging in there.

2.9 in engineering is different from a 2.9 in business. To get into business grad school you will need a higher GPA (about 3.5) and engineering you only need around a 3.0 GPA (since so many of the darn classes are so hard!).

I had a 3.5 GPA in business and when I switched to engineering I started to get a 3.0 GPA plus I'm working A LOT harder now. Just hang in there.. you would be suprised how many friends I have that are on AP right now.
