Not a bad idea. But, how do you know that this threat of exposure wasn't already made? What's the next step when they keep coming back?

IP block bans, email domain bans, ISP complaints, local law enforcement harassment reports, etc. It's not like AT hasn't successfully dealt with returning banned members before. Posting personal information publicly is immaturely vindictive and serves no real purpose to solve the problem.

IP blocks don't work, they just move to another IP address. email domain bans aren't a possibility since most people are using gmail, hotmail, yahoomail etc. It's a rare event when we ban an entire email domain. ISP complaints don't work either. We have tried those many times and they produce next to zero. Same goes for law enforcement harassment reporting.

Any other ideas?

I have to strongly disagree. It gets the word out that someone is a criminal.
AT has had trolls contact them and asked to have their info removed because when doing a google search of the trolls name, their trolling activity is the first thing that comes up. If an employer looks up someones name and finds he is a troll, they are better able to protect themselves from a thieving employee.
Now people searching their name know that they are thieves and maybe someone contemplating the same thing will be swayed to not try it.
AT any rate, the info is factual and easily available to anyone that wants to take the time to search it out.

YOU ARE NOT ANONYMOUS ON THE INTERNET.

For most of the above, I could counter with caveats. For the others, it seems that one would have to have inside information on each of the cases here - which I don't and really don't want.

Some people are just frustrated and/or moronic children who are always pushing boundaries - sometimes, imaginary ones. I suppose, if I was the admin of a site, I would get pretty fucking tired of 'em. I would probably use it as a last resort after several warnings since getting support from law enforcement depends on laws being broken. This is more akin to getting rid of annoying insects.

All the while keeping in mind that the success or failure of your For Sale/Trade Forums depends on your actions.

I've sent a couple PMs to FS/FT mods containing personal information I had when I found someone I once knew on their list in the hopes that it might help them aprehend the asshole.

I still don't think their personal information should be made public. I don't think it should be shared outside of forum management, authorities, and the victim.

Hmm. Have rarely been to fsft nor considered it in my above posts. I guess there could be some actual laws broken. Maybe anandtech forums could declare itself a municipality and create a police force and build a jail. The offenders could be forced into submission by being 'water-boarded' in p&n.

I would but I doubt it would make me feel better about myself. In fact I'd probably feel like I was picking on a retarded kid or worse. Wait..I saw what I did there:shocked:

All joking aside Nik, this guy just keeps coming back time and time again, in fact I don't think this is the first time his info has been posted so it's probably an exercise in futility with him but it will get the message across to other banned idiots that continued re-registering under different handles will have it's consequences...or not.

Just being an "asshole as usual". It is a non-Issue, like Olds keeps saying, the idea of anonymity is false. The only people the Mods post Personal info about are not welcome at AT, yet they keep coming back again and again. Essentially deserving the treatment.

So, you don't think what trollhunters does is a service to the internet community? They post every piece of information that can be found on the perps. Some of these guys have ripped people off into the thousands of dollars.

Oh grow up and stop putting words in my mouth  Why can't I have a civil, adult conversation with you?

Well it was civil until you started that diatribe. I was just asking a simple question and you apparently get offended easily so I will rephrase my question.

What do you think of trollhunters?

Nik, you're like a dog who keeps insisting that we throw that stick just one more time, one more time, one more time, one more time, one more time, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, just one more time . . .so you can go chase it and bite it and shake it and growl.

Down boy, down.

Bad Nik.

What I'm saying is that you like to argue, and get lost in the satisfaction of arguing for argument's sake, and just won't let go, long past when it would have made good sense to.

And like every other mouth breather on your short bus, you then think you've won something, some special category in the Special Olympics perhaps, when all you've done is confirm your shortcomings to the rest of us.

<shrug>

I think their efforts to track down personal information for authorities to use to solve the matter is extremely commendable! As I said, I help when I can, which has been all of once. If I had the extra time or knew what I was doing, I'd love to help out; but I'm a dumbass, I don't know how you guys track down their info and I'm sure I don't understand half the effort made by the trollhunters.

This question and this answer are unrelated to my opinion regarding Anandtech going out of their way to post said personal information publicly.

Do you have anything to actually add to the conversation? Or are you just trying to push my buttons just to be pushing my buttons?

No.

I well know how futile it is to provoke an ill-trained dog into humping your leg, because then it simply gets all excited and won't stop -- can't stop really - tongue hanging out, glazed look of idiot satisfaction in its eyes, that little red tip starting to emerge -- and eventually you're going to have to kick it.

What does your continued personal attack, witty and entertaining as it is, have to do with the subject at hand?

Come on, Nik. You can't be this humorless. That was funny as hell. If you were not the target, you'd be laughing too.

I'm not that humorless. I was making a subtle point and it wasn't to you.

We're getting off-subject, let's not derail the thread.

As stated above; all points have been made.

People may disagree; but what is done is what is felt best for the community as a whole.
Some do not get the message and having their transressions posted in public may act as an input to their other lives - hopefully changing them for the better.
