Not an issue, but a question

I have to wonder about a sanitary napkin add on a forum that's almost entirely male. I don't care about the add, but isn't demographic information given to sponsors so they can target their advertising and possibly even achieve a sale? Or is there a much larger female population here than I'm aware of?

It just struck me as one of the stranger things I've seen here.

Strange, yes. We (moderators, admins) don't have control over the addvertising. (sp)
Occasionally, advertisers go rogue or something, hence the occasional pop-up that happens (that aren't supposed to happen.) When that happens, getting the exact URL of the offending script is helpful in correcting the problem.

I assumed it was something along those lines. I couldn't imagine someone paying for such a poorly placed ad.

Thanks Doc.

An analysis of the Posts by some Bot seems to disagree. Maybe it's time we all Manned up? :hmm:

With behavioral advertising it doesn't particularly matter what the demographics are here. The ads you receive will be based on the sites you've visited and the ads you've clicked over the entire Internet, which means either you share your computer or the ad agencies have completely misinterpreted your browsing habits.

Virge, mt last two day's of internet searches have been all about backhoe's. So either something is borked, or backhoe has taken on a whole new meaning.

If you want to make it stop the easiest thing to do would be to erase all your cookies (including Flash cookies); that should break the link.

I don't block them all, just the animated sanitary napkin that unfolds on my screen.
Wait, it unfolds on your screen? As in it's an overlay that's not staying in the ad box?

It's a picture at the lower left of my screen. It expands a little if my mouse crosses it, and an animation starts.

So it's more than one person then? I'm going to throw this up to the ad guys and see what they have to say.

So when it was just me it was no big deal, busydude see's it and suddenly we have a crisis? You can just forget that Christmas card from me this year.

Back on earth: Doesn't everyone see it?

A sanitary napkin - while far from a popular ad here - is not a problem if just one person is seeing it. It doesn't break AT's ad policy, it just isn't something people are excited to see. However if multiple people are seeing it then it warrants looking in to. This is a volunteer operation and I have to do quite a bit of work to pull together the necessary data to for the ad guys to be able to pinpoint any given ad.

Back on earth: Doesn't everyone see it?
No. If I could get it to come up we wouldn't be having this conversation.:p

This being a forum veritably chocked full of geeks with little to do, I'd be inclined to ask them to do all the legwork. My guess is you'd have everything there is to know about that ad within the hour, and could probably arrange to have the site crashed by daybreak.

You'd think that. The last time I asked someone for more info, they asked where to send the bill.:p

I think I remember seeing that ad too on some of my PCs. Don't recall which one. Don't remember it expanding, but I didn't mouseover either.
