Not all memory shown

I have 256mb ddr pc2700, on my tool bar I have a program called freeram that shows me how much ram I have free when I swich on it always shows 144mb free, even if I shut down all programs except explorer and systray I only get a maximum of 188mb, where is the other 80mg is windows using it all?

I have a digital camera and usually have large files open, do i need to add more Ram?

My computer is
XP2200
EPOX 8K9A motherboard
Radion 7000 graphics
Sound blaster pc16
256mb DDR PC2700
Windows 98

Any help would be appreciated

what is your system. is your memory high density.. or low? How much are you using.. what are you limits on modules in the banks.

How much do you think you have in and how much is showing up?

Did you just install a new one? Have you tried pulling it out and putting it back in?

I have 256 DDR PC2700

Most it ever show free is 188mb total is shown as 256mb

only 1 installed possible 3 slots

Welcome.

I think all your memory is fine, you have to remember the OS itself is hogging ram just to run.. If your running with 188 free everything should be fine.

You can simply open up task manager and see who is taking what.

Not on Win98 he can't. 188 seems about right, actually.
