not able to boot windows 7 on new skylake build

Hello everyone, I a new to this forum , this is my first post .

I need help in installing windows 7 on my new skylake build.

My old computer war 7 + year old and obsolete so i decided to go for a new skylake build and my parts are as follows : i5 6500 , asus b150m plus board (DDR4), 8gb kingston ram, sata odd, wd 1tb hdd.
So i was excited about my new system and tried to install windows 7 from the usb stick on the system but i got drivers missing error, after some searching on internet i found that its a known issue on skylake and installing via dvd may help so i tried installing via dvd and everything worked fine and i was able to install windows and i reached to the point to set username and password but then at the final restart when windows finally boot the windows crashed at the loading screen ( when 4 colored balls appear) i didnt got any error that time but at next boot i got error saying windows failed to boot and an option of repair and start windows normally. I selected the 2nd one and again this happened, even after reinstalling i had no luck.
Later i decided to try installing windows 10 and i borrowed installation media of windows 10 from my friend without key and tried to install that, luckily it installed good and booted up normally but my windows was not activated as i had no key so i was assured that hardware was working ok and i again tried installing windows 7 and again that thing happened, i even tried installing windows 7 on hdds from my old pc where it worked fine and then plugging that hdd in new build but still the same results, now i feel so fu**** that i couldnt even install windows in my new pc and i dont want to buy windows 10 now. I tried contacting asus but thier support is closed from 2 days in my country 🙁 what could be the problem here? can anyone please shed some light on it and help me.
Thanks guys for reading and trying to help me 🙂 looking forward to have great discussions on this forum in future 🙂

Welcome to the forums.

I have not used that board, but the manual shows the CSM (compatibility support module) is under the boot tab in the bios. Set it to legacy support mode or whatever it is called there. It can be UEFI + legacy, hybrid, etc. As long as the legacy support is active. Also set secure boot to disable until after you are done with the install. And if fast boot is enabled, turn that off until the install is complete too. Probably not necessary but will not hurt either.

If secure boot is greyed out, post back and we will get that going.

The USB issue has work a rounds, but since you have an optical drive no worries there. It probably failed to complete the install because of the INT 10H issue. Some boards and bios revisions may even have a legacy BIOS Interrupt 10 setting you can turn on to correct it. I think it is because it is trying to use VGA.sys on a UEFI system.

thanks a lot guys for your replies and special thanks to dapunisher as i made it to work following him 🙂
Here is what i changed in bios:

fast boot disabled, in csm i changed boot devices to uefi driver first option, i didnt had int 10 option but int 19 option so i enabled that ( i didnt understood its function though 😛) and secure boot was greyed out but i had an option below it to select os type with two options as windows uefi mode and other os and I selected second one as its description said more compatibility and voila this time it booted up 🙂 thanks again, but now i am having wierd issue, mouse sensitivity is very slow in windows 7 i feel its due to lack of usb 3.0 driver, so will try installing them or if anyone know why its happening please tell me 🙂
I am not looking to switch to win 10 as i like windows 7 more than 10 xD i tried windows 10 but i just didn't liked its interface, it looked more like a smartphone and compatibility issue with older games and softwares, will stick with windows 7 as long as I can .

I thought MS backtracked and said that skylake would have support for Win 7? Has that not been implemented yet?

This may sound dumb, but piggyback off his question. I have a Win 10 laptop on the way and I want to use VMWare to run an instance of XP on it for some recording software. Will that be a problem or should I wipe it and try to use Win 7?

I do not know what MS is up to.

VMWare should be fine. I have used the free version without issue in 10.

Very good to hear. Thanks for the update.

Same. No issues using vmware in Windows 10 with the latest updates. Just make sure virtualization is enabled in the BIOS, if they provide such options. A couple I have had over the past few years had it disabled by default.
