**Not a necro** burried knife found at OJ's

Would not be surprising at all, but at this point, does it really matter? OJ can't be tried again (double jeopardy), plus he's already in jail for another felony. There's very little doubt about his guilt anyway.

The media turned on OJ immediately. It was like he never existed. It was like he was never part of the white people club. He was just another n-person to be discarded. It's an amazing case study of how groups of humans think. You're "one of us" until you're not.
I don't expect white people to defend OJ and say killing that girl was justified, but it seemed like nobody was on OJ's side. If Brad Pitt stabbed someone, you can be sure there would be some people arguing that it's not a credible case, someone is lying, Brad didn't do it because X reason, etc. With OJ, it was immediately assumed he was guilty. I have no proof that everyone turning on him had something to do with race, but it sure feels like it. OJ got away with it due to money alone. His fame did not help.

I don't think everyone *immediately* assumed it was OJ. But, then he started doing things like the slow motion car chase. Not to mention, the vast majority of people find DNA evidence to be pretty credible.

I'm pretty sure fleeing the police with $8k in cash, a loaded gun, a passport, a disguise/extra clothes and family pictures had something to do with it. Does that sound like the planning of someone innocent?

You understand the Heisman isn't money, right? That he's been in mainstream movies? OJ had fame supporting him on Day 1, I remember seeing people lining roads and over passes on the freeway with signs defending OJ. Money and fame both help, money moreso initially, fame constantly. You'll notice not too many people care about Jay Z making a producer leak anymore. His career certainly hasn't suffered for it.

I presume you mean bodily harm, but regardless I don't agree with your need to speak for OJ's fears. Avoidance of potential harm is understandable, too bad the presence of the passport points to a non-standard reaction to harm. You can choose to ignore material evidence present during OJs much televised flight if you want to, but I can't. Making the 'cut and run' decision is a little more than simply running in the opposite direction in which you perceive harm to be coming from.

Actually, I think in many cases other men in OJs position might rather opt for some brief and painful 'harm' rather than face what OJ was likely more scared of: a prison term or the death penalty.
 
I found this story difficult to believe but it is also being reported in the LA Times, who I assume has the best sources within the LAPD.

What a bizarre story. Cop is given a knife which may be the murder weapon in the most famous murder case in American history, and instead of handing it over for testing, he keeps it as a souvenir... Too bad the cop is retired. It's too late for him to be fired.

Those who are innocent don't generally fear being "harmed" by the legal process, especially when they have plenty of money for top legal counsel. OJ was not some poor black guy who might have felt he had no chance for a fair process. Anyway, those who are innocent usually want their day in court, a chance to be vindicated. OJ ran because the "harm" he feared was imprisonment for a crime he committed.

It is bizarre, and yes that should have been handed over for testing immediately, but as a practical matter, what difference does it make? It's not like they could go back and retry OJ for the murders.

Which is why over 300+ people have been exonerated through DNA testing by the Innocence Project. Those innocent people were all too happy to go through the system to prove their innocence.

Its their job to prevent and solve crimes. This could go under solving a crime.

If the knife in question can be proven to be the murder weapon and the DA is presented with evidence that OJ was definitely NOT the killer, the case could be reopened.

Who is more likely to be smoking something here?

Him for believing that O.J. Simpson could get a fair trial at that time (remember he was known at that time for his football prowess. Not for what he would later become.)

Or you who thinks that:
Fleeing the police with $8k in cash, a loaded gun, a passport, a disguise/extra clothes and family pictures... was because O.J. was fearful of getting a solid shake.

You're not getting what I'm saying. If he were white, there is a very real possibility white people would try to rationalize all of that. He has a passport because he travels a lot. He has a loaded gun because he's famous and cares about personal safety. He's running from the police because he's scared. He's carrying extra clothes because he likes to go to the gym. He has family pictures because he loves his family. Etc.
Black people actually did what I'm saying. They entered the state of denial that such a great man could do such a thing. This is why there was a big racial divide where most white people thought he was guilty, but many or most black people maintained that he was innocent. The group he was part of, black people, defended him to the bitter end. The group that previously accepted him as an outsider, white people, immediately turned on him.

He can't be tried again for the same crime, but he can be tried for a different crime. Obstruction of justice maybe? According to the top google result:
