latest news says at least 9 dead, 11 injured in shooting, 7 dead from bombing.

shooting suspect in custody, reports that he was seen around site of explosion (probably not reliable).

news outlets sure suck ass at reporting the news. they might as well just move all of CNN to twitter.

WTF this is so sad :(

Also really bizarre - Norway is a country much like NZ, with a similar population too. We're not used to this kind of violence in countries like this. This is an extremely uncommon event.

Also, yeah you're right brblx, the reporting so far is atrocious.

I was just there a couple weeks back. Norway is beautiful (the land, not the weather). I'm glad to be back before this crap happened. Hopefully, it isn't the start of anything new.

the P&N thread might have more info, but it has mostly turned into a trollfest.

i never said he COULDN'T be muslim. there are plenty of causasion converts.

but it's more likely that it is more of domestic terrorism thing. where did you hear a muslim group took credit? (not that that MEANS much- they'll take credit for anything that is in line with their 'goals.')

Where did you hear that?

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/23/world/europe/23oslo.html?_r=2&hp

Conflicting reports centered on one group, Ansar al-Jihad al-Alami, or the Helpers of the Global Jihad. According to Will McCants, a terrorism analyst at C.N.A., a research institute, the group issued a statement claiming responsibility, saying the attack was a response to the presence of Norwegian forces in Afghanistan and to unspecified insults to the Prophet Muhammad.

Though from the later updates I've just read it sounds like they might have been taking credit for something they didn't do...or they did the bombings and it was just an awful coincidence this nutball went off shooting people at the same time.

EDIT: In conclusion yes I may just be an idiot this time for not keeping up with changing stories...

A case of looking for any reason (jumping) to prove your biases and assumptions.

It happens.

no blame here; as stated, the reporting on what is a MAJOR event has been absolutely pathetic. our country just does not give a fuck about anyone that's not 'royalty'/celebrity.

No bias at all, claims were made that later turned out to be suspect, may eventually turn out to be true but only time will tell...and the reasons for assumption are massive and don't require any bias at all.

It's pretty easy to blame Muslim fundamentalists. When shit blows up, the Muslims are a safe bet. You might not win every bet, but you'll come out ahead over the long term.

Edit:
Changed "Muslim" to "Muslim fundamentalist" per mod request, and to reflect greater accuracy.

What point does this server beyond further promoting a hateful stereotype?

but realize 'muslim' is a description of a religion, not an entire region or ethnic group.

what you mean is, 'when shit blows up, islamic extremists with no purpose in life other than to cause the suffering of those they oppose ect ect.'

I was pointing out the logical connection. If you have evidence to refute my point, I'm all ears(eyes), but I suspect I'm right. Ignoring the obvious doesn't do anyone any good.

I'll accept this correction. Support, or complicity is almost as bad as those who act on it.
