My daughter and I both had the same problem, on two computers 100 miles apart, one running W2K, the other WinME:
All of a sudden, the computer acts like it is weeks ago as far as settings, forums visited, etc.

NSW 2001 and MS Office 2000 Premium are the only things our computers have in common. Opps, and they're both OCed too.

Is this a known problem? Any clues?

(My computer is scheduled to run speed disk(defrag) once a week; I *think* hers is too)

I would say to try uninstalling Norton and seeing what happens. I generally do not like Norton or any utility suites because they tend to install a lot extra stuff that you don't get told about, and they seem to reach into areas of the system where I'd rather not have settings messed with. If you absolutely need to have an anti-virus software in place, install only the virus scanner, nothing else. To be completely honest though, I have never had any of my personal computers become infected with a virus in 7 years of being online. Common sense is the best anti-virus system. Also, the Norton defrag is not faster than the defrag utility included in Windows and I am also unable to see a difference in results.
