Norton SystemWorks 2000 incompatible with WinME?

What is Norton trying to pull? They say NSW2000 is incompatible with WinME, and so they released NSW 2001. WinME is essentially just Win98SE. I installed it onto WinME, and everything seems to work fine. But like always with Norton products, it finds a lot of things "wrong" with the registry and wants to automatically fix them. It found 12 things wrong, and I just formated my drive and did a clean install of WinME!!!

One thing I also hate about Norton, is that they only put out one "update" to each version. Then a "new" version comes out, but you can't just upgrade to that. You have to buy it.

Another gripe I have about Norton/Symantecs is that after they release a new version, they no longer offer any "updates" to their older products! Example: I had Norton Systemworks v1.0. There was several updates that was released for it. But, after v2.0 was released, they no longer offered the updates.

Well one has to wonder when about the compatibility of SW 2000. When you go to Symantec's site they specifically mention that SW 2001 is compatible WinME.

Can't speak for Norton Systemworks, but I did a fresh install of ME two nights ago from the upgrade CD and both Norton Utilites 2000 and AntiVirus 2000 are working perfectly. Let LiveUpdate get the newest virus definitions and utility files and it seems fine. Disk Doctor and SpeedDisk run as always.

When running NU System Works 2000 for the first time after the upgrade from Win98SE to WinME, it said that the program was not compatible, but allowed me the option of using it anyway.

I went in and used Speed Disk and it worked just fine. I then did Live Update and it now no longer bugs me about compatibility.

As an update to this question, I just did an UPGRADE of a friend's WIN98 computer that had SystemWorks 1.0 installed. Everything is working perfectly; I think Symantec just wants to sell some additional copies of SystemWorks.

Using Nsw 2000 with ME - no problems so far.
I upgraded SE+NSW2000 to ME.
During upgrade the only message I got was for Norton Internet Security, which I uninstalled.

yeah supposedyl nu 2k and antivirus 2k are not fully compatablie, so thus the 2k1 versions, which surprised me how fast tey came out, and supposedly there are compataility problems with photoshop and cuteftp, 2 programs that make upgrading to ME not worth it imho and thus my ME cd is a corona coaster right now

Only problem I have seen is in the Norton Protection for the recycle bin.
Also there is no Dos Boot info or boot sector with Win ME and NSW2K cant find it or repair it.

I've had a couple of BSOD that I've traced to Norton Systemworks and/or Antivirus. I got NAV 2001 over the weekend, so I'll have to see. Most errors I've gotten with WinME are BSOD when browsing or once when opening e-mail, Spider Solitaire completely locking up the machine (looks like a video driver problem, but everything else video-wise is working fine), and some occasional BSOD with NAVA-something in them. I also got a BSOD when running Norton SystemCheck. I guess some of my problems will continue for the forseeable future . . . oh well ;)

Symantec is a crock of cr@p. If you go to their support forum, you'll see some of the least informed, most juvenile support techs that I've ever seen. It's really pathetic. Too bad McAfee can't counter with anything better (though, I still use Nuts & Bolt's Disk Minder to fix the EXACT SAME problems that NU 2000 will not fix . . . weird, huh?).
