Norton System Works Replacement?

Ive always used Norton Sys Works. Ive liked the One Button check up and it seems to keep the registry maintained. This has all always seemed nice since Ive never bothered to learn to do whatever it is Norton does myself.

But it seems to be a resource hog and it takes over my comp and does what it thinks best....

I would like to find another program (or programs) to replace this. So what does everyone who dosent like Norton use or do to keep eveything nice?🙂

I used Norton SystemWorks Pro for a long time. As an all-in-one program suite, it offers a lot of powerful utilities. I can't really think of a competing all-in-one program suite that competes with it.

But it is a resource hog. My system is currently 100% Norton-free - though I do still use GhostPE DOS boot disks for partition image/restore tasks to/from CDs, since they're all I need for those tasks.

I use TrendMicro IS2005 firewall/AV combo, and find it superior to NAV in a number of ways, including light system resource load.

There are some excellent individual utility programs, such as Ace Utilities, RegSupremePro and others.

I'm waiting on delivery of Acronis TrueIMage8 for partition image/restore tasks to/from DVD media. Don't know about how well it works until I use it.

Just make a list of what you need to keep your system secure and efficient, and start trialing candidate solutions. I'd start with the most important task first, which is probably system security.

Replacing SystemWorks with component solutions will probably cost you a bit more, but I think you can come up with better solutions than provided by SystemWorks.

Hope this helps!

Ashampoo Winoptimizer deals with registry/HD/dll cleanup.
Panda Antivirus
Diskeeper defragmenter
Sygate firewall (although i hear the new Panda includes a firewall, don't know about its quality)

That's my suite.

I have been using Ace since it's inception. Really good imo.
